ANOHNI - 4 Degrees

A: ANOHNI
S: 4 Degrees

On the first single taken from Anohni's forthcoming album Hopelessness, the singer formerly known as Antony Hegarty imagines the apocalypse through the unsentimental death of the world's creatures such as lemurs, fish, dogs, the animals in the trees. Sad, true, and inspired by real events.

... I wanna burn the sky.

Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody

A: Queen
S: Bohemian Rhapsody

For long, the only downside to Queen's epic musical saga was that it is a ruddy nightmare to dance to. Until two dancers from the English National Ballet have performed their re-imagining to tie in with its 40-year anniversary, and the result is completely mesmerising.

... carry on as if nothing really matters.

Gloria Ann Taylor - Love Is A Hurting Thing

A: Gloria Ann Taylor
S: Love Is A Hurting Thing

Yes it is a freaking amazing song and no I don't know why you haven't heard it before but you do now so put it on every sad little playlist you have, take a lonely bubble bath and push that repeat as long as you can, Stan.

... don't you know that?

Chvrches - Empty Threat

A: Chvrches
S: Empty Threat

According to a streaming service I use, Chvrches was my most streamed band in 2015. And their album was my most streamed album, and Clearest Blue was my most streamed song. I was hoping for more diversity, but here I go.

... I was better off when I was on your side.

Poison Ivory - Mr. Wonderful

A: Poison Ivory
S: Mr. Wonderful

Thinking a new year is going to change the direction into which your life is heading is probably as naive as believing your latest crush is going to last forever. So here's to the great abilty to fool ourselves, all over again.

... one day you'll wake up and you'll have no spine.

Vopli Vidoplyasova - Tanzi

A: Vopli Vidoplyasova
S: Tanzi

How about ... we kick off the new year with an Ukrainian punk band. I know, stranger things have happened but I was 1989, a whole year that is now owned by Taylor Swift. Anyway. let's prentend tanzi means dancing, and let's do.

... tanzi, tanzi, tanzi.
