Young Fathers - In My View

A: Young Fathers
S: In My View

Make way for the best album of the year so far. In My View is the first song taken from Cocoa Sugar. Downtempo and monochromatic, the song is a hybrid, half-sung and half-spoken, as disembodied voices creak and echo. As always with Young Fathers, the song, continues to test perceptions, packed with little provocations.

... I wanna be king until I am.

Tracey Thorn - It's All True

A: Tracey Thorn
S: It's All True

It's All True was the first single from Everything but the Girl's singer Tracey Thorn's solo album, Out of the Woods, released in February 2007. The video is as simple as it is clever, which is exactly what true artists do, except if you're Taylor Swift of course, then just copy last year's Kenzo ad directed by Spike Jonze.

... this is just my heart laid bare.

Sam Vance-Law - Prettyboy

A: Sam Vance-Law
S: Prettyboy

Sam Vance-Law follows on from his debut single Prettyboy with the release of his debut album with the extravagant title Homotopia, which was released two weeks ago. At 23, the Canadian-born singer relocated to Berlin where Homotopia came to life. His classical music education still shining through. Enjoy.

... give me the bottle of gin my love.

Frank Ocean - Novacane

A: Frank Ocean
S: Novacane

This gem was Frank Ocean's debut single, released from his mixtape Nostalgia, Ultra. Lyrically, the song narrates a tale of a young female dental student who makes a living doing porn and who recreationally uses local anesthetic drugs that she acquires from her place of study. Happy Monday.

... fuck me good, fuck me long, fuck me numb.

Years & Years - Sanctify

A: Years & Years
S: Sanctify

The first track from Years & Years second album is here and is waiting for deep impact on your ears. Frontman Olly Alexander said: The video for Sanctify centers around an audition against the backdrop of a future metropolis called Palo Santo. It’s the first part of a bigger jigsaw puzzle and my hope is that it confuses the hell out of people but also excites them in a mysterious and sensual way.

... forgive me for finding the truth.

Anderson .Paak - Til It's Over

A: Anderson .Paak
S: Til It's Over

Anderson .Paak’s first new song since releasing Yes Lawd! in 2016, relishes the life-affirming moments spent in the company of a loved one and the idle time in between, when the attachment is waning. Released as part of a chromatic Spike Jonze-directed Apple ad that stars FKA twigs, the song is as engrossing as the video, a shimmering R&B groove that savors the odyssey of romance, even when the end is in sight.

... we can never stay here.

Lana Del Rey - You Must Love Me

A: Lana Del Rey
S: You Must Love Me

If I had a dollar for every time I've heard that song as a teenager I probably wouldn't be working today but sipping champagne at 8.30 am at my private pool in Palm Springs. Anyway, Lana did Madonna more than proud. Happy Friday.

... where do we go from here?
