Gatsby Week: Florence + The Machine - Over The Love

A: Florence + The Machine
S: Over The Love
C: The Great Gatsby - OST

As always I'm in a bit of a love/hate relationship with any of La Welsh's songs. Her voice is beautifully dominant, but after twenty replays it becomes a bit too dominant ... right now I'm at number 19, I think.

... I don't want to see what I've seen.

Gatsby Week: The xx - Together

A: The xx
S: Together
C: The Great Gatsby - OST

The Great Gatsby soundtrack to Baz Luhrmann's is out on Thursday and offers a star-studded list of the who's who in popular music. And since we didn't have a theme week on here in a while, I thought: Let's have a ball.

... I can’t feel all the things you’ve ever felt before.

Benjamin Biolay - Les Cerfs Volants

A: Benjamin Biolay
S: Les Cerfs Volants
C: Rose Kennedy

I was six years old, it was 1988, and I remember how I fell in love with a song for the first time. I love when that keeps happening - unrequited love, it's fantastic. Just like with this little gem by Benjamin Biolay.

... il y aura tout autour de nous.

Young Wonder Feat. Sacred Animals - Time

A: Young Wonder Feat. Sacred Animals
S: Time
C: Time - EP

Young Wonder is an electronic pop duo from Cork, Ireland (cool, I like that). They make music with big beats (wow, I like that too), euphoric synths (swell, I love that) and pitched vocals (jackpot, I guess).

... delicate is easy, delicate is more.

Martika - Love Thy Will Be Done

A: Martika
S: Love Thy Will Be Done
C: Martika's Kitchen

The 90s called and said they want to be on this blog. Anyway, I just realized that the best thing about any sort of disappointment is the carefree attitude you get when bouncing back from it, tickling your feet like a little dance that wants out.

... make me strive for the glorious and divine.

Mt. Wolf - Life Size Ghosts

A: Mt. Wolf
S: Life Size Ghosts
C: Life Size Ghosts - EP

Mt. Wolf are a new London-based folk/electronic band offering an eclectic and instantly appealing palette of folk, electronica and bass soundscapes. Their alluring sound is aptly termed "dreamfolk" - I second that.

...life size ghosts, they have come to push you back.

SOHN - Bloodflows

A: SOHN
S: Bloodflows
C: Bloodflows

If I had known what a stir you can cause in Berlin when wearing shorts, I would have worn them all winter long. Anyway, this is SOHN with Bloodflows, the album is out in June, I think. Maybe it's just the single, who knows.

... contract killer prose calmly walks away as blood flows.
