Pnau - Wild Strawberries - OZ WEEK 2

A: Pnau
S: Wild Strawberries
C: Pnau

Put some karaoke flavored cartoon shizzle in your Tuesday! Next chapter in Oz Week is Pnau, who might be a little less known on this side of the planet we call earth, but it's actually the exact same master or even monster minds behind it as Empire Of The Sun, which is just a side project of Nick Littlemore (vocals, production) and Peter Mayes (guitar, production). Did that make sense? Probably not.

Empire Of The Sun - Walking On A Dream - OZ WEEK 1

A: Empire Of The Sun
S: Walking On A Dream
C: Walking On A Dream

Let's kick off Oz Week with the act, or project (as it says in my dusty paper, retro and analogue encyclopedia) that started the whole thing, that got the stone rolling. It's Empire Of The Sun, I think. For my they are the turning point in popular Australian music, next next chapter. Just look at 'We are the people': it was here, went away, came back, took on the world and is an Über-Song now.

Lil Wayne Feat. Jay-Z - Mr. Carter

A: Lil Wayne Feat. Jay-Z
S: Mr. Carter
C: Tha Carter III

This is so not my genre so I'm not going into any details. But I love it, and just sing along. It goes something like this: (Hey Mr. Carter) I am him! (Tell me where you been?) Around the world and now I'm back again! (They been asking, they been searching, they been wondering why) Who's been asking about me?! In case you're wonder-ing! Haa!

Airship - Algebra

A: Airship
S: Algebra
C: Algebra - EP

Is it a bad thing if I like the video more than the song? Guess it's not. Then again, there is nothing not to like about the tune so I figure I like it too. Airship have got a new single coming out called 'Kids' but, as always, I am way ahead of schedule and there is no video out yet so I guess this will have to do. Airship are from my other home town, as in the one I chose myself, the greatest city of great Manchester.

White Denim - Drug

A: White Denim
S: Drug
C: D

White Denim apparently have their album out today, it's called 'D' and is out today, or was yesterday, or what do I know. I don't even know what day it is anymore, which is what happens when you work weekends and you don't go out. Weeks just blend into each other, and so I find myself waking up today thinking: God, it's not Saturday is it. It must be thursday. But hey ho, it's that thank fcuck it's friday day.

Wolf Gang - The King And All Of His Men

A: Wolf Gang
S: The King And All Of His Men
C: Suego Faults (out 27.06.11)

So I checked, I had planned to post this six weeks ago. Then I was like 'No, na, maybe tomorrow, let's wait another day'. And what does the Wolfiest Gang of all twitter yesterday? Apparently there is a new video out. Which explains, thinking about it, why I couldn't find the old one these past two weeks. Ha, and I never even realized that Wolf Gang adds up to Wolfgang. How thick is me.

25 Mai 2011

Wiz Khalifa - Roll Up

A: Wiz Khalifa
S: Roll Up
C: Rolling Papers

Caution: This contains summer! Since my best lady friend, who introduced me to this song, is on a vacation trip down south and by a 99% certainty without internet connection I take the liberty and post this today, pretending it was me who discovered this sundrenched sunny anthem. But it wasn't. Just to make sure. You know, just in case. Never mess with a miss red head.

24 Mai 2011

Sara Bareilles - Uncharted

A: Sara Bareilles
S: Uncharted
C: Kaleidoscope Heart

... uncharted rhymes with farted - I'm loving it already. Here's to Ben Folds! And I think Sara's here to stay. On the release of her debut I thought 'so you are not going to write a 'Love Song', big deal lady'. Then 'King of Anything' came out and Miss Bareilles grew on me. Here's the who's who for the video: Maroon 5's Adam Levine, N.E.R.D's Pharrell Williams, OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder, Ben Folds, Vanessa Carlton, Josh Groban and YouTube lip-sync sensation Keenan Cahill.

23 Mai 2011

Manchester Orchestra - I Can Barely Breathe

A: Manchester Orchestra
S: I Can Barely Breathe
C: Simple Math

Manchester Orchestra are not from Manchester but from Atlanta, Georgia. Makes sense doesn't it. I like a logic when there isn't one, and I love when there is sense in nonsense. Anyway, the band's name is a tribute to this very city in old England which is enriched with great musical history: The Smiths, The Stone Roses, Joy Division, Oasis, New Order, Happy Mondays - just to name a view.

22 Mai 2011

Popcorn - Tap-Moi-La

A: Popcorn
S: Tap-Moi-La

This must be the song I danced to most in my entire life, I believe, so maybe it's bad timing to post it on a Sunday but when I watched the video for the very first time yesterday I just knew I had to. Typically 90's, you think they have been so so bad - then you find something like this and you realize once again that they have actually been worse. Here's to youtube, the greatest thing since a trip down memory lane.

21 Mai 2011

Patrick Wolf - House

A: Patrick Wolf
S: House
C: Lupercalia (out 17.06.11)

Oh look, it's Patrick Wolf. Again. While the release of his next album Lupercalia has been postponed for a couple of weeks, Patrick invites us back to not only his house but home, where plants grow as liberally as insects and birds run free. Not to forget the fish, of course. This is dedicated to one half of Zigitros, who sat on my sofa last Saturday and sang along so enthusiastically.

The Crookes - Godless Girl

A: The Crookes
S: Godless Girl
C: Chasing After Ghosts

It's official: Indie is back! Because The Crookes come from where Indie comes, Sheffield, England. The band's name originates from a certain suburb in the before mentioned city. According to the bible of everything Indie, NME, "a band this good is unlikely to remain obscure for long". Its style has been described as a fusion of 'heartbreaking melodies', inspired by 1950s and 60s pop-music and Kitchen sink realism... that's me done copy/pasting.

19 Mai 2011

Rachel Goodrich - Light Bulb (ANR Remix)

A: Rachel Goodrich
S: Light Bulb (ANR Remix)
C: Rachel Goodrich

Yes yes there is an original version to the song too, and it's much more relaxed, indie, sweet and innocent. But there was some kind of competition going on at the time so all the clips are enriched with semi-professional, semi-funny and semi-mazing videos. Which is why I figured the ANR sunny-funny, upbeat tempo and juicy as a watermelon version is more fun to post on a day like today, thursday that is. You can smell the weekend, can't you?

18 Mai 2011

Pete Yorn - Sans Fear

A: Pete Yorn
S: Sans Fear
C: Pete Yorn (out now)

Hang on, there is a free and legally downloadable track coming, just a minute, it's going to be here in just one second. Here it is. So, Sans Fear might need a couple of listen which means it's not an instant liker, and I'm quite sure it's never going to be my favorite Pete Yorn track ever, but he is so gorgeously talented I'm seriously thinking about burying myself halfway down a dune.

17 Mai 2011

77 Bombay Street - Long Way

A: 77 Bombay Street
S: Long Way
C: Up In The Sky

Not much of a Swiss patriot, I'm always more than skeptical when it comes to bands from here. Then, once in a blue moon, there is a band that kind of surprises me because they are actually better than the image I have in this all so weird head of mine. 77 Bombay Street are one of those bands. I didn't even bother to check what the name was all about. Sounds like gin, it's fine with me.

16 Mai 2011

Mona - Teenager

A: Mona
S: Teenager
C: Mona (out 16.05.11, as in today)

If you want to run a daily blog like this one, I advise you either get a nine-to-five job like I had before, or an extra scoop of self-discipline, like I never had. Anyway, working shifts and kind of whenever is why the post are posted all over the daily routine at the moment. Simply because there is none. So, Mona are from Nashville and have their debut out today. As you might have figured yourself: If you love Kings Of Leon, you are gone like this.

15 Mai 2011

Foo Fighters - Walk

A: Foo Fighters
S: Walk
C: Wasting Light

Rape your repeat button! Since today is Sunday, which is followed by Monday, both the kind of official cinema days, if your not a movie addict like me who goes to the movies about three times a week, I figured it would be a smashing idea to combine my two great addictions and kind of recommend the next block buster to do: Thor. Then again, if you're not into Marvel Movies, maybe not. Yet then there's the latest Foo Fighters album you might enjoy.

14 Mai 2011

Lena Meyer-Landrut - Taken By A Stranger

A: Lena Meyer-Landrut
S: Taken By A Stranger
C: Good News

There is no getting around the bloody thing today anyway so let's embrace the trashiest yet most iconic (for whatever reasons you might chose) sing-and-sing-along contest of all times with this little track that isn't even half as bad, I think. Points will be points, the west will hate the east, the east won't give a toss, and by Monday everybody will have forgotten about the whole thing anyway.

13 Mai 2011

Imany - You Will Never Know

A: Imany
S: You Will Never Know
C: The Shape of a Broken Heart

Abso-freaking-lutely stunning, both song and video. Plus they support my theory that in 2011 long intros are the thing to do (outros too). There are days when I got a certain song prepared to post, due to a release date or a tour date or whatever reason, and I stumble upon a completely different song that is just so 'jeez - I have to post this immediately if not sooner'. Needless to say, today is such a day.

12 Mai 2011

Bag Raiders - Shooting Stars

A: Bag Raiders
S: Shooting Stars
C: Bag Raiders

L: Hive Club Zurich, 23h, 12.05.11

I know it's their third song I'm posting but today there is actually a reason! So since I'm not using the A-Word anymore I'm just going to say that the Raiders are from a land far far away. And they made it all the way to Europe, playing live at Hive tonight (there's a rhyme, great poet walking, and all that). So if you're not in Zurich, simply check the Bag Raisers website for additional dates and information.

11 Mai 2011

The Streets - OMG

A: The Streets
S: OMG
C: Computers And Blues

Oh my god, how very clever to write a song about the triviality of the relationship status on Facebook. Just as brilliant is to post this song on Facebook, by the way (if you are reading this on Blogspot, all you have to do is head over to the Facebook Page) And when it comes to naming triviality, nobody says it quite as brilliantly as Mike: Among the normally ignorable requests at the right, I'd of never of guessed a request so nice, Now if you look at my status, I'm in a relationship too... with you.

10 Mai 2011

Rihanna - California King Bed

A: Rihanna
S: California King Bed
C: Loud

Good things come to those who wait - California King Size Love Palace is my favorite ballad on the latest Rihanna album. And I like the all yellow-orange-ish fading and shading in the video. Plus I love the whole red hairdo, which is nothing new, I know, neither for Lady R, nor me, although being that red, I don't know if it's still classified as ginger or purely artificial. Anyway, this is for Ms. S, living across the courtyard.

09 Mai 2011

Holy Ghost! - I Will Come Back

A: Holy Ghost!
S: I Will Come Back
C: Holy Ghost!

If you live in Zurich and like this, you might want to get your party socks ready. Holy Ghost! are stopping by on their current tour, next week, Monday the 16th, at Mascotte. If you live in London you can see them tonight at Heaven, and if you live somewhere else between Brighton and Barcelona, simply check their Facebook or Website to get your local party slash concert date sorted... I know you want to.

08 Mai 2011

Hercules & Love Affair - Falling

A: Hercules & Love Affair
S: Falling
C: Blue Songs

Put some funk in your Sunday - I know I will. If you danced all night (much like me), this is what will get you through your hangover today. If you didn't boogie down happiness, it's the chance to catch up on what you've missed last night. At least that's the idea which makes most sense to me. Then again, you might want to mix in a dash of aspirin for what's left of your beloved brain, and some ice cold spoons to chill those lids.

07 Mai 2011

Modjo - Lady (Hear Me Tonight)

A: Modjo
S: Lady (Hear Me Tonight)
C: Modjo

Now I got one word to say about Lady: Tune. Classic. Iconic. Maybe it's just me, but I think this is having a comeback. And with this I mean the song, not the act. If it's even possible for a song to have a comeback. If not, this is the first, because I'm hearing it kind of out and about recently. Talking about out, this came out the same year as I did. Funny coincidence.

06 Mai 2011

Friendly Fires - Hawaiian Air

A: Friendly Fires
S: Hawaiian Air
C: Pala (out 13.05.11)

Right, so I know the new Lady Gaga video is out today, but I decided to go for a different artist and put in a krass contrast with commercial by not posting a video at all. Just kidding. Music will always be, more or less, commercial. At the end of it all, you know. And if anybody says something else they are mad or lying. So the new Friendly Fires Cd is out next Friday, in order to shorten the wait, enjoy Hawaiian Air which features on it.

05 Mai 2011

Little Majorette - Never Be The Same

A: Little Majorette
S: Never Be The Same
C: Rifle Heart

Little Majorette are from Sweden. Are you loving it already? I do. The band, and the saying. It is my new favorite. Now don't go copy/paste-ing. Anyway, Zoe Durrant, member of the band obviously, had dreamed of becoming a Little Majorette all her childhood, so there's where the name comes from. 'Rifle Heart' is the bands debut, but if you read their page it's not. It's much more. Apparently. But it is a debut. But it's not.

04 Mai 2011

IAMX - Ghosts of Utopia

A: IAMX
S: Ghosts of Utopia
C: Volatile Times

The artist formerly known as member of Sneaker Pimps has had his album out like forever, and the video has been released even before but then the tour is still going on and strong so I figure I am still in time to post this. I've been told, couple of years back, by a virgin actually, that every word Chris Corner utters, means sex. And I was like: Is that so? Then I thought, how would she know??

03 Mai 2011

Dirty Vegas - Electric Love

A: Dirty Vegas
S: Electric Love
C: Electric Love

Dirty Vegas is one of the bands that I totally like but never really listen to. Which is probably why I didn't know until today that they had formed in 2001, then broke up in 2005 before reforming in December 2008 to record new material. I love a comeback, always. So this is it, their third album, called Electric Love too, out since last week. Shop!

02 Mai 2011

Hooray For Earth - True Loves

A: Hooray For Earth
S: True Loves
S: True Loves - Single

This might not be a proper compliment, then it's not a real insult either: The video might be a tad more entertaining than the song. Mostly because the video is really really ace. So what else? Hooray For Earth are originally from Boston, but have moved to Brooklyn now because that's where all the cool bands are from these days. You know, all you have to do these days is move.

01 Mai 2011

The One AM Radio - Credible Threats

A: The One AM Radio
S: Credible Threats
C: Credible Threats - EP

Hands up if you have been waiting all day for this. Yeah, right. Still, better late than never, and with a daily song, never isn't really an option. So anyway, I think that getting strikingly drunk on a Saturday night would not be a good idea if work all day was on the Sunday agenda and you don't have time or will do blog through the headache the next morning. If you got drunk on Saturday. Just saying.
