Angus Stone - Broken Brights

A: Angus Stone
S: Broken Brights
C: Broken Brights

It's that guy that usually hangs around with Julia! What's his name again, Angus? Ah yes it is. It looks like his solo doing is quite successfull so I better stop making fun of it. And him. Probably going to stop all together now anyway because I am, excuse the french, fcuking busy. After all, this is just a blog.

... is that the old man walking in the dark?

Jay Z & Kanye West - No Church In The Wild

A: Jay Z & Kanye West
S: No Church In The Wild
C: Watch The Throne

Where did they film this, Montreal? I knew things weren't going to well when I left but this is taking the whole thing one step further. Ok so it's obviously not Montreal. Still, when the riots in London were on, Levi's had to kill the TV ads for the Go Forth campaign. Because it could encourage rioters. Obviously things are different when it is a music video. Or not?

... what's a mob to a king? what's a king to a God?

Chromatics - These Streets Will Never Look The Same

A: Chromatics
S: These Streets Will Never Look The Same
C: Kill For Love

It's the Chromatics! My favourite band! Of their album Kill For Love! My favourite album! Ok I think I made my point. My freaking bedroom floor is too dusty, just in case anybody cared. And my hands are dry. Maybe I should start writing lyrics for songs too. They would be close to irrelevant, yet still better than instrumental.

... I spend my life inside this brain.

Hunx And His Punx - You Don't Like Rock N Roll

A: Hunx And His Punx
S: You Don't Like Rock N Roll
C: Gay Singles

In case your Monday needs improving, this will do the job perfectly. It might just the campest thing I have ever seen in a music video. Yet it still plays on a well true human truth. Or homo truth, for that matter: you are almost always the odd one out when listening to indie music. Which is what indie is all about, so one shouldn't complain about it, I guess.

... it's not that I think you're bad looking - you don't like rock n roll.

Vib Gyor - Red Lights

A: Vib Gyor
S: Red Lights
C: We Are Not An Island

I just finished watching 'Intouchables' which I would probably call the best movie of the year, so far. I laughed, I cried, in short, I was truely moved. Which I don't say very often. But this little French film is a true little diamond. So anyway, and this song is featured on the soundtrack. So I suggest you listen to this, and then watch the movie. Or the other way around.

... crawl your way out of here - I'm watching over you.

Alpines - Empire

A: Alpines
S: Empire
C: Empire - Single

This is Alpines - not to be confused with Alpine. Which is exactly what I did. Because Alpine is my favourite band this year. Or not, taking into consideration that I don't even know how to spell their name properly. But anywway, then I read the youtube comments on this and decided it's totes worth posting to. So enjoy.

... and they say, this is as good as it gets.

Wankelmut - One Day

A: Wankelmut
S: One Day
C: One Day - EP

As I'm waiting for my taxi cab pick up to head to Montreal's airport, I can think of only one song to post today. And after last night's party, that is pretty much the only thing I can think about.

... one day baby - we'll be old.

Morgan Page Feat. Tegan and Sara - Body Work

A: Morgan Page Feat. Tegan and Sara
S: Body Work
C: In The Air

Morgan Page teams up with Canada's Tegan and Sara. Having remixed numerous cuts for the indie stalwarts, the three wanted to write something together from scratch. Body Work is a stellar example of Page's skills as a producer and as an artist: brilliantly balancing kinetic house music with blissful radio-ready pop.

... I feel my pulse working overtime.

Breakbot Feat. Irfane - Baby I'm Yours

A: Breakbot Feat. Irfane
S: Baby I'm Yours
C: Baby I'm Yours - EP

Honestly, I don't even have a clue what to talk about today. All I'm be able to manage is copy slash paste this little gem from a friend's post to that blog of mine. And it isn't even new! Did you watch the first semi final of Eurovision last night? I didn't. But I was happy to read that the Russian grannies are taking stage again on Saturday.

... you were the clock - that was ticking in my heart.

Woodkid - Run Boy Run

A: Woodkid
S: Run Boy Run
C: The Golden Age

It only took Woodkid over a year to release his second single. Pretty neat. But this new piece of production makes up for every single minute down the waiting line. And even so for the ad that might run in front of it. The only thing I am curious about it: If he and Lana are ever going to split up, will they be bothered that their videos look exactly the same? To be continued.

... tomorrow is another day - and you won't have to hide away.

Marc Bolan & T. Rex - Born To Boogie

A: Marc Bolan & T. Rex
S: Born To Boogie
C: Tanx

Here's the second part of T. Rex's double boogie extravaganza that got interrupted yesterday by Robin Gibb's passing. And then we're pretty much done with the goldie oldies. It's a bank holiday in Montreal today. Just in case anybody wanted to know and didn't.

... spend some time with you - I wanna do all I wanna do.

** RIP Robin Gibb ** The Bee Gees - Massachusetts

A: The Bee Gees
S: Massachusetts
C: The Best of The Bee Gees

Bee Gees was always a bit tricky. I was never a big fan. But my dad played Bee Gees songs throughout my childhood. So yeah, talk about happy memories, I am sucking on an apple popsicle while writing this. Not that it has any deeper meaning. But faced with the passing of a person, sometimes all you need to do is get trivial.

... and the lights all went out in Massachusetts.

T. Rex - I Love To Boogie

A: T. Rex
S: I Love To Boogie
C: I Love To Boogie

This weekend should be about boogie and boogieing, I think. And about T. Rex, too. Because I tried to come up with a whole boogie themed week. But that didn't happen, obviously. So now I am stuck with these two songs that are still pretty funky and by T. Rex who I know nothing about. Oh, and this is a movie dancing scene collection - and mine is so Rain Man.

... the passions of the earth blasted it's mind.

Dirty Projectors - Gun Has No Trigger

A: Dirty Projectors
S: Gun Has No Trigger
C: Gun Has No Trigger - EP

I just realised that I kind of missed my deadline, even in Montreal. But I won't tell anybody if you don't. In addition to this, I decided to be lazy and just copy slash past this band's website biography onto here. Turns out there isn't any. Literally.

...  if you had looked - you might have just seen them.

Suzi Lane - Harmony

A: Suzi Lane
S: Harmony
C: Harmony - Single

So Donna Summer died, who cares? Apparently the whole world. The thing I remember most about her is when she went on an entire anti-gay bender. Not that I was around, but I've been told. So you won't see me crying at the discotheque. Instead I am dancing to this iconic disco tune by Suzi Lane. Viva!

... you and me - harmony.

Passion Pit - Take A Walk

A: Passion Pit
S: Take A Walk
C: Gossamer

This will have to do without a video. And without any discription. And without any comment. Basically, this is all about the song, which it kind of always the case anyway. But I thought I point it out nevertheless.

...  practise isn’t perfect.

Future Islands - Balance

A: Future Islands
S: Balance
C: On the Water

Get ready to be fueled with Canadian influenced music this week. Like this. Not saying that the bands and artists are from Canada themselves, just that it is right here in Montreal where I discovered them. And that is all there is to it for today. And I will leave you with Future Islands, who are a synthpop band based in Baltimore, Maryland.

... it just takes time - hard work and your time.

The Hives - Go Right Ahead

A: The Hives
S: Go Right Ahead
C: Lex Hives (out 05.06.12)

They seemed to be gone forever, but now they are back: on June 5th, The Hives will release their next album Lex Hives. Which will probably be followed by a tour. Now I don't know about you, but I've seen them live once, and everything seemed so sexual. I mean not everything, but the atmosphere. There was something in the air for sure. And it wasn't hayfever.

... you should turn around - you never know.

Until June - In My Head

A: Until June
S: In My Head
C: Sound Of Defeat

I am kind of guessing that you will be wondering - which is why I checked: No, the other songs by Until June aren't all this absosmashinglutely stunning. Not saying that they aren't stunning, but this one is special. Which is why it fits perfectly to Mothers Day. To me. And that is pretty much it for today.

... and all that I hear are the voices in the air that keep reminding me.

Zowie - My Calculator

A: Zowie
S: My Calculator
C: My Calculator - Single

What else is there to do on a windy Saturday morning waiting for an UPS delivery? Apparently nothing but cooking coffee. And listening to Zowie. And catching up on viral videos. The most irritating probably being Serena Williams rapping - the tennis player, yes. Doesn't even sound have as bad, only takes a minute, but unfortunately is all about her. And her being Serena Williams. A bit like Madonna really.

... that is not my number on your screen.

Tom Vek - Aroused

A: Tom Vek
S: Aroused
C: Leisure Seizure

Well, I think this video might just be about smoking. It might be about black and white cinematography in music videos. But I think it is about smoking. Which is becoming, once again, totally rebellious. And I, of course, want to be a rebel too. Ever since David Bowie released that song back in 1974, when even I wasn't born.

... you look aroused - you look awake.

Walk The Moon - Anna Sun

A: Walk The Moon
S: Anna Sun
C: Anna Sun - EP

How about some totally useless information for once, about this utterly bright song? This is, surprise,
the official Anna Sun music video. It has been directed & produced by Patrick Meier of Contrast Productions. And Kim Popa of Pones Inc is responsible for the choreography. In addition, the clip features a 2 1/2 minute continuous camera shot inside the historic Mockbee building in Cincinnati's brewery distric.

... your hands on my cheeks - your shoulder in my mouth.

Little Boots - Every Night I Say A Prayer

A: Little Boots
S: Every Night I Say A Prayer
C: Every Night I Say A Prayer - Single

Little Boots, also known as Victoria Christina Hesketh, prepares for a brilliant comeback, also known as the tricky second album that usually follows a successful debut. The name Little Boots apparently derives from her unusually small feet - which is almost too much information for my liking. What I do like though is that you can download this track for free on her soundcloud page.

... love is darkness.

Nelly Furtado - Big Hoops (Bigger The Better)

A: Nelly Furtado
S: Big Hoops (Bigger The Better)
C: The Spirit Indestructible (out 15.06.12)

With her next album The Spirit Indestructible being outon June 15th, La Furtado marks her return just in time for the steamy summer season, contributing her part to the never-ending Size Does or Doesn't Matter discussion. And that is pretty much all there is to say.

... I can go fast, I can go slow - I can go places nobody else goes.

Modeselektor Feat. Thom Yorke - Shipwreck

A: Modeselektor Feat. Thom Yorke
S: Shipwreck
C: Monkeytown

Add a bit of Thom Yorke and it is almost impossible to go wrong. Let me correct this: It is impossible to go wrong. Shipwreck is taken from Berlin duo Modeselektor's current album Monkeytown, which shows their full forced return to club-boiling beats all aound the globe - at least that is how their record company sees it.

... you flat fall - you blank yourself.

Apparat Feat. Soap & Skin - Goodbye

A: Apparat Feat. Soap & Skin
S: Goodbye

Knowing that most of us like Sundays (I don't), this was an obvious choice, guessing that we all love Drive, the movie, and Ryan, the actor. Do I know anybody who doesn't like him? Honestly, I don't think so. So anyway, the soundtrack is obviously an important party of the movie, and it should, because it's ace.

... don't tell me why - kiss me goodbye.

The Donnies The Amys - Boxer + Clover

A: The Donnies The Amys
S: Boxer + Clover
C: The Donnies The Amys

It's The Donnies The Amys! You can go for a shortcut and call them TDTA. They are an indie pop band from Echo Park, California. And it gets better, or worse. They only have 247 likes on that book called face. I haven't got a clue how that's possible. Maybe the lack of fancyness in their video is responsible for that, but the music on the album makes up for it, ten times!

... lonely heart - here’s the message i’ve been trying to send to you.

The Young Professionals - Deserve

A: The Young Professionals
S:  Deserve
C: 9:00 To 17:00, 17:00 To Whenever

Israel's hippest hipsters are back. Not that they ever went away since releasing their debut '9:00 To 17:00, 17:00 To Whenever' in February. A record that I still love, three months in, which happens rarely enough. It's completely conceptual, with the songs ranging in moods from 9:00 to 17:00, and from 17:00 to whenever - yeah, what a surprise, given the album title. As I said, completely conceptual.

... you can trick me into anything - if you shine away.

Thomas Azier - Red Eyes

A: Thomas Azier
S: Red Eyes
C: Hylas 001

Who's that boy? Lalala, lalala... It's Thomas Azier, who is a pop-electronic music artist, based in Berlin. Quote: “I write so many melodies always end up with too many in the end, resulting in an orgy of melodies; I love that moment when everything comes together and it seems to fit.” - Azier. As for me, I totally get where he is coming from: I love an orgy every now and then, too. As long as it's musical.

... you feel the sweat against your skin - the mess you're in.

Bastille - Sleepsong

A: Bastille
S: Sleepsong
C: Overjoyed - EP

It's Bastille! Again, I know. This might come as a surprise, but I've decided to push and hype Bastille. As in so 2012. Because I like the sound of it. And because I can't seem to find much information about it. So I can write all sorts of things about Bastille and you just have to believe it. Like: Bastille used to be a sheep on the moon. Farming a farm. Which went bankrupt.

... it's what you feel - but can't articulate out loud.

Tennis - My Better Self

A: Tennis
S: My Better Self
C: Young And Old

It's Tennis! Honestly, who picks Tennis as a stage name? Well they did, obviously. Who they are? An American indie pop band from Denver made up of husband-and-wife duo Alaina Moore and Patrick Riley. I don't get couples working together. But it seems to work in this case. So maybe I don't get couples at all. As for this, I am liking the song, and I am loving the video.

... I do not know - but meaning comes and it goes.
