Blitzen Trapper - Love The Way You Walk Away

A: Blitzen Trapper
S: Love The Way You Walk Away
C: American Goldwing

I love the way they name their song. I know I've said this before but I'm more than happy to point it out again: The best lines are the most simple ones. Take a basic feeling, describe it in the most basic way, and you got yourself a line that everybody can identify with. Add some country-ish folk-ish americana-ish sounds to it, and you'll find that, in all its glory, it's today's song. Nothing but perfect.

Architecture In Helsinki - Contact High

A: Architecture In Helsinki
S: Contact High
C: Moment Bends

This might not be their best track on their latest album, but it will do for today. And since it's been a while since I actually wrote something worthy about a band I posted, I'll do this again. Now. Architecture in Helsinki is an Australian indie pop band which consists of Cameron Bird, Gus Franklin, Jamie Mildren, Sam Perry, and Kellie Sutherland. You see, there's nothing Helsinki about these architects.

The Young Professionals (TYP) - 20 Seconds

A: The Young Professionals
S: 20 Seconds
C: 09:00 to 17:00, 17:00 to Whenever

I think it's safe to say I like the video more than I like the song. And that I like the band more than their music. Then again, I like the chorus more than the rest of the song. This is probably going to turn into some sort of guilty pleasure. In short, I admit, as a package, I like the whole freaking thing. After all, what's the point fighting it? Exactly. And on that note '09:00 to 17:00, 17:00 to Whenever' might just be the best a bum title, ever.

Mark Ronson & The Business Intl. Feat. MNDR, Pharrell, Wiley & Wretch 32 - Record Collection 2012 (Logo Remix)

A: Mark Ronson & The Business Intl.
S: Record Collection 2012 (Logo Remix)
C: Record Collection 2012 - The Mixes

Whilst I'm normally not too big a fan for posting remixes on this blog, I simply had to put this one on. Mainly because of the fantastic, long and unwinding featuring list. Then, of course as well, because Mark Ronson is God. And because the Record Collection 2012 Mixes are released on Kitsuné, my favorite french label (not that I would know any or many other french music labels).

Is Tropical - Lies

A: Is Tropical
S: Lies
C: Native To

Since everybody but me liked their previous video for The Geeks (some even call it legendary, as in whatever), I figure it's time to kiss and dance up. Besides that, I'm wondering why this video isn't restricted, age-wise I mean. Maybe it is, everywhere but here in France where I am at the moment. Since this is the big nation of bigger love and it's making, they must have different standards.

Metronomy - The Bay

A: Metronomy
S: The Bay
C: The English Riviera

I know, it's not a surprisingly new song to post, but it is my favorite one on the The English Riviera album. And it makes so much and perfectly sense to post it now, now that I'm visiting the French Riviera. Although, bien sûr, this isn't Paris, and this isn't London, and it's not Berlin, and it's not Hong Kong, not Tokyo. If you want to go, I'll take you back one day - It feels so good in the bay.

Apparat - Song Of Los

A: Apparat
S: Song Of Los
C: Devil's Walk (out today)

I like songs like this on days like this. As for the song, I mean the ones that kind of have an increase in tempo in them, but they never reach climax. Think of it as sex without orgasm. Somehow you just don't quite get there. Only in music, it's a good thing, I think. As for the day like today, I'm off to the South of France, so I had to make sure I'll leave Berlin posting a Berlin artist, who just so happens to release his album today.

Baru - Open Ears

A: Baru
S: Open Ears
C: Open Ears - Single

Here's the thing: To me this sounds a bit like everything else. Editors mainly, and the lot. And I know that this doesn't sound much like a compliment, unless it's coming from me. Because in my little musical universe, it's ok to have similarities, being a band. Being human, it is also fine to have differences. No judgement. Bands are like people, they are who they are, take them or leave them. That's it.

Creep Feat. Nina Sky - You

A: Creep Feat. Nina Sky
S: You
C: You - Single

Here's another thought I had (make sure this isn't the first thing you read this morning, because it won't be all tasty): Great music is like a pimple, ready to pop. Situated right under the first layer of skin of the human body, causing a certain and constant aking, signaling to your head that there is something infectious going on. Obviously we all consider great music to be something different, which is great itself.

Kasabian - Days Are Forgotten

A: Kasabian
S: Days Are Forgotten
C: Velociraptor!
V: http://www.tape.tv/vid/139031

I think the best thing that Kasabian ever had going for them is that they released their absolute best possible album ever first. And got everybody, including me, hooked on their sound. I'm not saying that they haven't released hot sizzling shizzle since, but that magical whatever it was with the debut has never happened to that extend again. At least not to me. Then again, that is just me.

The Jezabels - Endless Summer

A: The Jezabels
S: Endless Summer
C: Prisoner

I'm highly addicted to music, I admit, but only to music that is highly addictive. Why? Because of Mornings like this. I've read that when it comes to smokers, their degree of addiction to nicotine is determined by whether they consider the first cigarette in the morning to be the best or not. Well, my first new song discovered every morning is always my best. So yeah, I'm highly addicted to great songs.

The Be Good Tanyas - Waitin' Around To Die

A: The Be Good Tanyas
S: Waitin' Around To Die
C: Chinatown

You probably shouldn't listen to this if today is set to be a rainy day in your region. In addition, you shouldn't listen to this if you don't have a certain liking for the depressed and depressing side of Sunday. I find this to be absolutely beautiful, but I don't want anybody to get any ideas, so I'm just saying, for what it is. It is what it is. As in by the way: How cool is the bands name.

17 September 2011

Elvis Presley - Suspicious Minds

A: Elvis Presley
S: Suspicious Minds
C: Live In Vegas

Christ, here I am, trying to wake up to the world with some extra strong coffee and a smooth Lucky Strike, and what do I see from my window in another window across the street? Some super super pregnant woman doing her morning gymnastics. Anyway, this song is special to me (not really), but dedicated to someone who is and I would describe her as nothing else but truly scandalously scandalous.

16 September 2011

The Head and The Heart - Cats and Dogs

A: The Head and The Heart
S: Cats and Dogs
C: THE HEAD AND THE HEART

The Head and The Heart made for a fantastic debut single a couple of months ago, and have now released their slightly short follow up - short as in I-don't-consider-songs-under-three-minutes-to-be-a-proper-song - and this one adds up to only 2.20, including a silent intro! Shocking, I know. But I like this anyway, especially the line: He discovered there was nothing there, nothing there to discover.

Michael Jackson - Blood On The Dance Floor

A: Michael Jackson
S: Blood On The Dance Floor
C: Blood On The Dance Floor

As far as I can see, and believe, I've never ever posted a Michael Jackson song before. Shocking, I know. Probably because I've never been a big fan, not before he died anyway. But likes and tastes is something that has to grow, and this song has been on repeat on my mobile jukebox for about a week now so I figured it was time to pay tribute where tribute has to be paid. So, in short, this is it.

Summer Camp - Better Off Without You

A: Summer Camp
S: Better Off Without You
C: Better Off Without You - Single

Ha, I love it. No matter what song, and there are many, 'better off without you' is always a good line to sing. First of all, it's a sentence we all like to believe in, sooner or later. Secondly, it adds a positive touch to an unpleasant feeling. Last but not least, it kind of portraits an attitude somewhere between whatever-and-how-reasonable-am-I. A reasonable rebel, if you like. I, personally, do.

The Phenomenal Handclap Band - Baby

The Phenomenal Handclap Band "Baby" from Friendly Fire Recordings on Vimeo.

A: The Phenomenal Handclap Band
S: Baby
C: The Phenomenal Handclap Band

Mmh. I'm on holidays and there isn't as much happening as normally, obviously. So I don't really know what to write like normally. Because I don't feel at easy doing nothing. Somebody should write a book about that. On how to do nothing. I would definitely read it and probably decide that it's a lot of lazy nonsense. In the end.

Blood Orange - Forget It

A: Blood Orange
S: Forget It
C: Coastal Grooves

Good Morning blog subscribers. Yes this is good morning because I am on holidays so deal with that. It has recently come to my attention that I love songs with minimal arrangements, much like The XX, Suuns and now from today on Blood Orange, too. By the way and off the record, my twitter account has got the hiccup at the moment. That's what it says on the page. I say it's a lot of bollocks. Anyway, enjoy.

Lana Del Rey - Video Games

A: Lana Del Rey
S: Video Games
C: Video Games - Single

I sat in an internet cafe in Manchester, chatting with a friend in Switzerland, when a friend in London sent me a text message, saying that our trip to Manhattan on the 14th was probably not going to happen because some building that I had never heard of was on fire. I was 19 years old an this was supposed to be my biggest adventure... That's where I was, today, 10 years ago, on the 11th of September 2001.

Justice - Audio, Video, Disco

A: Justice
S: Audio, Video, Disco
C: Audio, Video, Disco - The Album (out 25.10.11)

So it's Saturday and this is Justice, I figured they would go together nicely. And they do. This is about as clever as I'm going to get today. What else? So Justice's new album is set to be released on the 25th of october and is called Audio, Video, Disco too. Pick one. I'd choose audio, for obvious reasons. Disco is overrated anyway and video is like nothing without audio, so there you go.

Kid Cudi Feat. Kanye West & Common - Make Her Say

Kid Cudi - Make Her Say Feat. Kanye West & Common (HD) from DatNewCudi / DP on Vimeo.

A: Kid Cudi Feat. Kanye West & Common
S: Make Her Say
C: Man On The Moon: The End Of Day

How cool, I never knew there was a video to this one. How cooler, I never knew there was a video to this one with balloons. How coolest, it says featuring Kanye West and Common but not that blonde lady gagavaganzza. So that's about it for today, me and my MacBook Air are blogging live from Hamburg today, just in case anybody cared. Yeah, didn't think so. But since city trips are so hip, I thought I mention it.

Gotye Feat. Kimbra - Somebody That I Used To Know

A: Gotye Feat. Kimbra
S: Somebody That I Used To Know
C: Making Mirrors

Breaking news (sort of): This song is taking over the world (kind of). It was first spotted on London's hottest column in town, then some French Facebook Friend of mine posted it. If you pay attention to lyrics (like me), you must have noticed that recently 'somebody' is THE word to sing. Kings Of Leon - Use Somebody, The Killers - Somebody Told Me, Mark Ronson - Somebody To Love Me, and the lot.

Aimee Mann - One

A: Aimee Mann
S: One
C: Magnolia - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

I recently rediscovered this song when I accidentally walked past the the main song line in the school hall. The line was parading around on a T-Shirt, by the way. So anyway, in high school, ONE by Aimee was like THE anthem of my class. And I'm only learning now that it's a cover. Bad. Anything but are the lyrics, they are like one in a million: One is the loneliest number. Two can be as bad as one. Huge.

Slow Club - Two Cousins

A: Slow Club
S: Two Cousins
C: Paradise (out 12.09.11)

Ha - I'm loving this. It's like Janelle Monáe in slow motion. The video at least. Anyway, I had a thought this morning and it went something like this: I think there isn't any blood flowing in my veins, but music. It would explain a lot. Think of it this way: If I was a virus (which I'm not by the way), music would be my host cell. Just that I wouldn't kill it in the end (after all, we like a happy ending).

Tronik Youth - I Know

A: Tronik Youth
S: I Know
C: I Know - Single

Now, I have one word to say to you and one word only: Miserable Monday Morning Mood. That's all.

04 September 2011

Timber Timbre - Too Old To Die Young

A: Timber Timbre
S: Too Old To Die Young
C: Creep On Creepin' On

The intro to this is about forever long, but if you can bring yourself to sit trough it, you'll see a quite wicked video. And of course there's that super cool voice, singing cool stuff like 'I'm too old to die young' - obviously. Because we know: One by one, only the good die young. Anyway I'll stop now and start wondering how I went from Canadian folk to queen in just 4 lines. Shocking.

The Young Professionals - D.I.S.C.O.

A: The Young Professionals
S: D.I.S.C.O.
C: D.I.S.C.O. - Single

So it's Saturday, I've heard. I wouldn't know, because I'll be working all weekend. Anyway, since it is the weekend, and a gorgeously sunny one on top, I thought it's time to camp things up (again). And in camping it up, nothing does the job better than some tranny featuring, 80s anthem sampling, American Apparel sponsored video clip that comes all the way from Israel and is bound to conquer your dancefloor, right?

BOY - Little Numbers

A: BOY
S: Little Numbers
C: Mutual Friends

Boy, I haven't been this freaking excited about posting a song in very long time! Duo BOY, half Swiss, half Germany (bit like me, just that I'm half Swiss, half Turkish) are releasing their debut Mutual Friends today. And since I'm craving for some five minutes of fame, I'd like to point out that one of the two BOYs used to be one of my co-workers about a hundred years ago and we used to ride the train together for hours and hours.

Mickey Avalon - Rock Bottom

A: Mickey Avalon
S: Rock Bottom
C: Rock Bottom - Single

Here's what you and I missed yesterday: My unemployed, permanently stoned, eating disorder orientated, manic depressed, never sleeping, always annoying, Björk-look-alike-ish flatmate finally moved out - which is kind of nice and totally liberating. As for the song: Mickey Avalon got finally rid of his old record label and releases new stuff. I like, because he's the unrappiest rapper ever.
