CockNBullKid - Asthma Attack

A: CockNBullKid
S: Asthma Attack
C: Adulthood (out: who knows)

I'm loving the irony of this, big time, two times. The week I get back from my weekend in London the city's funkiest anthem sees the release of its video, and me who always thought that twitter was a boring place to spend time online discovered it right away when Island Records tweeted it. Needless to say I'm all pro tweeting the tweets on twitter now. And all pro CockNBullKid, obviously.

Silver Columns - Cavaliers - KT Tunstall's Choice

A: Silver Columns
S: Cavaliers
C: Yes And Dance

On a rainy Saturday a couple of weeks ago I figured there was nothing more exciting to do than pop down and meet KT Tunstall to ask her what song she would put on this blog of mine. So this is it. Signed by Moshi Moshi, the label describes Silver Column's first single as follows: A frantic opening battalion of synths acts as 'Cavalier's clarion call to the dancefloor, with the rest of the track piling on in a dizzying rush of pinballing beats, urgent keyboard lines and deceptively sweet vocals plaintively asking, can you hear me now? (as if there was ever any doubt in the first place).

Muse - Invincible

A: Muse
S: Invincible
C: Black Holes & Revelations

Sad day, sad song. This one is for my mother who passed away on a day like today, exactly 15 years ago, which adds up to the exact half of my life this year (yes I will hit 30 soon). Apparently there are moments in life where neither songs nor doctors can help. Which is why it is utterly important to be surrounded by great music at all times. So, it's my blog and I can sulk if I want to. Back to happy times tomorrow.

The Bravery - Slow Poison

A: The Bravery
S: Slow Poison
C: Stir The Blood

The Bravery released their debut back in 2005 and got themselves bored with it quite quickly, saying it was way to much synthie for their own liking in the end. Never change a winning team, I'd say. Their second album never really picked up where the first one left off so number three, called 'Stir The Blood', took them back to where they started from, all things synthie. I obviously missed that, which is why I post it with a year delay.

Jamie Woon - Lady Luck

A: Jamie Woon
S: Lady Luck
C: Mirrorwriting (out in April)

This post is so much more! More on Jamie Woon who will have his long awaited debut album out next month, more on copy cat style pinching this song off a certain music column published in London, more on what do you do when you don't have a clue what to write about a song and you can't be arsed googling the artist. Anyway, I do have a bag where it says Lady Luck on it, it's by All Saints, and it's ace.

I'm From Barcelona - Get in Line

A: I'm From Barcelona
S: Get in Line
C: Forever Today (out now)

Since I am taking a city trip to London, I figured we might just all take a little trip de Europe. So we are off to Barcelona, with I'm from Barcelona, although they are not. They are from Sweden and the biggest pop get-together ever, counting no less than 29 members. If you like the song, get the album, since this track isn't even the best, but still great.

The Clash - London Calling

A: The Clash
S: London Calling
C: London Calling

Well I guess the writing is on the blog: I'm off to London today. What better choice to pick than this iconic little song by The Clash. Released in 1979, it only reached chart position number 11 in the most United of all Kingdoms. Which seems quite odd today, I think. The album, which was called 'London Calling' too, was voted best cover of all times some years ago which was the reason why I bought it. Much like buying wine, just go for the etiquette. What could possibly go wrong.

Erland & The Carnival - Map Of An Englishman

A: Erland & The Carnival
S: Map Of An Englishman
C: Nightingale

Erland & The Carnival are like a recycled Freitag bag: Great in its own right but made of old material, which is: Simon Tong (formerly of The Verve, Blur and The Good, the Bad & the Queen), Orcadian folk guitarist and singer Gawain Erland Cooper and Drummer/Engineer David Nock (The Orb, The Cult, The Fireman). By the way, talking about a challenge, I'd like to point out that this is my 516th posted song today. Just saying.

Tim & Jean - Come Around

A: Tim & Jean
S: Come Around
C: (there is one coming out, apparently)

This thing is turning into something like 'An Australian Song A Day Keeps The Doctor Away'. Anyway, who cares. So up next, from Perth, are Tim & Jean with their contribution to highly sun-drenched and sunny high-pitched vocal tunes that make you want to hit the road and trip away in an open convertible. I actually have that crave all year long, every year, but this sounds like the perfect soundtrack to be playing along, the fantasy, or the real stuff.

Julien Doré - Kiss Me Forever

A: Julien Doré
S: Kiss Me Forever
C: Bichon (out now)

Let's take it to the French countryside, or suburbia - most probably, or even utopia - more likely. As I said earlier this year, intros in musical videos are the thing to do in 2011. This one even comes with an outro half as long as the song! So, Julien must have been the loopiest and most interrupted casting show contestant (and winner) that there ever was and ever will be - which is a great great thing (vive M6).

Jessica 6 - Fun Girl

A: Jessica 6
S: Fun Girl
C: Fun Girls

Soundwise somewhere between hangover and afterparty, voicewise somewhere near 60s soul diva and 1001 night, comes the trio that goes by the name Jessica 6. Touring the old continent with Hercules & Love Affaire at the moment, they have decided to be the next shizzle-dizzle to dazzle your razzle. Yet I don't know what excites me more, the beat or the oh so neat fluffy hair floating all over the video. If you don't like this one the first time around, just listen to it again.

Noah and the Whale - L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N.

A: Noah and the Whale
S: L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N.
C: Last Night On Earth (out now)

The thing I like most about the new and third Noah and the Whale album which has been released last week on Mercury is the cover. The name 'Noah and the Whale' is a marriage of the title of one of the band's favourite films, The Squid and the Whale, and the director of said film's name, Noah Baumbach. This should do for a lazy sunday post. I'm sorting out my taxes today so there can't be no boom boom music in the background, you know.

Mike Posner - Rolling in the Deep (Adele Cover)

A: Mike Posner
S: Rolling in the Deep (Adele Cover)

Look what I've found on London's latest and greatest addition to all things music column. Now don't go thinking I just copy all my songs from other people columns and reviews, but this one was to good to miss. So this is a tricky one, covering all beloved Adele's all present hit du jour, but Mike turns this into a song in it's own right, adding a darker point to the whole depth. Love it or hate it or download it.

Hot As Sun - Come Come

A: Hot As Sun
S: Come Come
C: Come Come - EP

Compared to Warpaint and Zola Jesus, this hypnotic female duo called Hot As Sun is bound to leave an impression on this year's musical scene. But here's the thing: I like the video and I obviously love the song, yet I don't think they necessarily work well together. Then again, that is just my very own opinion so you better judge for yourself. Actually, don't judge, just watch and listen, and turn that volume switch up to the max. It's the weekend anyway.

Jennifer Hudson - Where You At

A: Jennifer Hudson
S: Where You At
C: I remember me (out 22.03.11)

Let's have a solely and purely gossip post once, shall we. This blog is always so seriously about music, I almost forget about the whole tantrums and tiaras that go with it. Ok, in the style of In-Touch, Out-Of-Touch and what all the magazines are called, here we go: How much freaking weight did Jennifer Hudson lose!? I actually preferred her the way she was before - pro curves, that is me. And I do like her full-stop. Not that keen on the music, but today isn't about that.

Austra - Beat And The Pulse

A: Austra
S: Beat And The Pulse
C: Beat And The Pulse - EP

Please note that this is the 'clean' and edited version of the original video. If you want to see the other one, go find it yourself. Still, this one is so wrong it is right and I love it. Reminds me of a certain woman called Madonna dancing around a ghetto blaster singing 'Hung Up' - without the make up, of course. By the way, Austra is from Canada, not Austria, neither Australia. Just so there are no misunderstandings.

William Fitzsimmons - The Tide Pulls from the Moon

A: William Fitzsimmons
S: The Tide Pulls from the Moon
C: Gold in the Shadow (out 22.03.11)

William. Enough said. His new album is out next week. Mr. Fitzsimmons, to me, has the most >fill in here your most favorite word in the whole world to describe a voice< voice I have ever heard. If you ever get the chance to see him life, I highly recommend you do so. It will be an experience that is bitterly sweet and sweetly bitter at the same time. On stage, he does joke about how sad his songs are. Which they are, but then they are not.

Bag Raiders - Sunlight

A: Bag Raiders
S: Sunlight
C: Bag Raiders

A day as sun-drenched as today might not even need a song to keep the doctor away, but I'll post one anyway, just because I can. On that very thought I have been told a week ago or so that it wasn't the songs that kept the doctors away, but a kiss a day. Easy as that. Bag Raiders are a house duo from Sydney, and don't even think of not liking the song just because it is oh so fashionable to not like house, because it is not. Now open that window and turn up the volume.

The View - Grace

A: The View
S: Grace
C: Bread And Circuses (out now)

Right then, before this one ends up on the list of songs I should have done but kind of missed the right moment to do so and thus never ended up on this little blog of mine, here are The View, some scottish indie all-rounders (on that free online encyclopedia thing their sound is described as punk, pop, alternative rock, pop punk, powerpop, folk, and acoustic - loving this: Is there anything missing?). Anyway, they are all sober boys now and you are some lonely girls. Cheers.

The Legendary Lightness - Airplane

A: The Legendary Lightness
S: Airplane
C: Airplane - EP

The Legendary Lightness just have their new single released a week or two or maybe three ago, called 'Blue Light Turns To Grey'. Some magazine that shall not be named said their new video welcomes spring, but it looked more like a definition of winter to me so I have decided to go with this song they brought out last year. Anything Airplane is fine with me really. Stay put for the album release, which will be out first of april, no kidding.

The Naked And Famous - Girls Like You

A: The Naked And Famous
S: Girls Like You
C: Passive Me, Aggressive You (out now)

Ok ok ok, I know it is getting boring and I am well aware of the fact that this is the third song of The Naked And Famous to be posted on this blog, but I love the video and just downloaded the album (on iTunes, of course - when it comes to music, there is nothing illegal about me) which is released now (obviously) - and I am as excited as a Barbie who just returned from her first date with Ken (ok maybe not quite as much but close).

Miami Horror - Sometimes

A: Miami Horror
S: Sometimes
C: Illumination (out 29.04.11)

If summer was an musical act, it would be Miami Horror, and if summer was a song, it would be Sometimes - or something like that. According to my friend Wikipedia, the dabut album has been released last year, probably down under where the magical miamical Horrors are from, but up here on the old continent the date to pen down in your diary is end of April, just in time to get you going for this year's warmer season.

Zigitros - Wondering White

A: Zigitros
S: Wondering White
C: Wondering White - Single

At the break of their break-through with their long awaited debut album to be released sooner or soon (I've been told by their groupie number one), I figure it is about time to introduce Zurich's probably most exciting band around or ever. Zigitros, that is. Declaring their sound as 'Future Folk', the term itself leaves as much room for imagination as their songs are imaginative, which, after all, great music is all about.

Twin Sister - All Around And Away We Go

A: Twin Sister
S: All Around And Away We Go

I never really liked that saying but I will try it once: If you like Goldfrapp, you are going to love Twin Sister. Maybe it is the other way round, who knows. I'll try one more: if you like chocolate, you are going to love chocolate cake with chocolate flavored whipped cream. I do love chocolate, and I love Goldfrapp, and I love Twin Sister who are a five piece from Long Island (no Ice Tea). Must have a pretty big heart me.

The Heartbreaks - I Didn't Think It Would Hurt To Think Of You

A: The Heartbreaks
S: I Didn't Think It Would Hurt To Think Of You
C: I Didn't Think It Would Hurt To Think Of You - Single

More on great bands with great long song names we missed last year, let's take a trip to the British Seaside. I think they should have made the song title even longer. Anyway, The Heartbreaks are from Morecambe in Lancashire, which rated third in the book 'Crap Towns: The 50 Worst Places to Live in the UK'. Proving that, given the right environment, nothing is more artistically inspiring than the shitty side of shit.

Ramesh - The King

A: Ramesh
S: The King
C: The King - EP

Ramesh, which means 'singer' in persian, is the post-Voxtrot project by singer Ramesh (kind of makes sense, doesn't it). So, no video today but since yesterday's didn't exactly leave a big impression we'll just focus on the stunning little song this guy called Ramesh has recorded. Triumphant, yet fragile it proves that sometimes love isn't about being strong or stronger, but the ability to admit to be wrong.

The Boxer Rebellion - Flashing Red Light Means Go

A: The Boxer Rebellion
S: Flashing Red Light Means Go
C: Union

'Flashing Red Light Means Go' is a great song title, no? First of all the red has a strong message, secondly you get an instant picture in your mind. Talking bout pictures, how arty-farty-fantastically is that video. Has been directed by Grant Berry and Nick Tarte, so I read (not that I would know who they are). The video was created digitally, frame-by-frame, over an incredibly intense period of 4 weeks.

Darwin Deez - Bad Day

A: Darwin Deez
S: Bad Day
C: Darwin Deez

As I just figured out, I have posted Darwin Deez before, in August last year. Because I always forget who was hot and on, and who was not. Anyways, then when I discover that I have had a post of a certain artist or band before it is always so weird to read the stuff I wrote back then. It is kind of listening to your own voice on a tape recorder. Mean as mean can, enjoy: And I would like to be your girlfriend so I could dump you...

The Strokes - Under Cover Of Darkness

A: The Strokes
S: Under Cover Of Darkness
C: Angles

Well I guess this is it. The Strokes being back is almost as equally good and satisfying as world peace. Almost, of course. I'd like to think that it would be the perfect answer for any kinky hipster indie rock addict if they were asked what their biggest wish was - you know, like the Misses during a beauty contest. Then again, how indie can a band be when they were featured on a soundtrack like Marie Antoinette, no offense.

Pnau - The Truth

A: Pnau
S: The Truth

Next up, from Sydney in Australia (the country where some people don't do anything else than surfing, cruising and beaching) is dance music duo Pnau. Although I'm not really sure about the dance music, but Wikipedia told me so. Let's see if I get that right: Nick Littlemore for Pnau is the same Nick as in the band Empire for the sun. Apparently he has two other bands/side project but I'll stop before this gets properly confusing.

Radiohead - Lotus Flower

A: Radiohead
S: Lotus Flower
C: The King of Limbs

Funny, one of my work colleagues asked me yesterday: So is the new Radiohead album free as well? And we all know that the last one wasn't free but 'pay as much as you want' - not the same thing. Creedy bastards everywhere. Well, no harm done. Anyway, everybody else has posted the new Lady Gaga video already so I decided I wont. And quite frankly, I find Thom York to be the much more captivating and fascinating dancer than she is. But her video is ace, sure.
