Lizzo - Juice

A: Lizzo
S: Juice

Four days into the new year, Lizzo released the first great song of 2019. The Minneapolis singer-rapper-flautist specializes in propulsive self-empowerment anthems - feel-good songs about feeling good - and Juice may be her finest yet, a near-perfect retro-funk nugget that would have felt just right on a mirror-balled dance floor in 1982. Funk below.

ROSALÍA - DE AQUÍ NO SALES

A: ROSALÍA
S: DE AQUÍ NO SALES

Rosalía shared an epic visual for De Aquí No Sales, showcasing the Catalan songwriter's signature swagger. Following an epic run of videos from El Mal Querer in 2018, Rosalía has revealed the fifth of the album’s 11 tracks to receive a visual treatment. In every scene, as always, Rosalía comes across singularly unfuckwitable.

DRAM - Cash Machine

A: DRAM
S: Cash Machine

D.R.A.M. dedicated his 2016 track to his money counter. This followed his viral sensation Broccoli and his single Cute. Like Broccoli, Cash Machine was well-received, garnering the top spot on Stereogum’s 5 Best Songs of the Week for the week it was released. It also samples a classic Ray Charles song, Hallelujah I love Her So for the piano loop heard at the start of the song.

Poolside - Everything Goes

A: Poolside
S: Everything Goes

If you've seen Poolside DJ the last few years you've probably heard Everything Goes, probably depending on how much time you've spent doing your stuff on the cubicles or the actual dance floor because they play the track it every set. Repetitive, but still. Poolside now worked with a cellist on Everything Goes and had fun trying something different. Enjoy below.

Foals - Exits

A: Foals
S: Exits

Foals have discussed the meaning of their bold new single Exits, along with the making of the surreal video starring Game Of Thrones’ Isaac Hempstead Wright. “Exits’ is basically about trying to paint a visual picture with words about the state of where we’re at, and all the preoccupations that we have,” frontman Yannis Philippakis said. “The environment being one, also the state of surveillance and all of the ways that we attached to the outside world. There isn’t any privacy."

Dendemann - Menschine

A: Dendemann
S: Menschine

Hubert Lenoir - Recommencer

A: Hubert Lenoir
S: Recommencer

It's officially Thursday so let's French things up with Hubert Lenoir's track Recommencer of his 2018 album Darlène and the fact that there are never as much information about French artists, tracks or records as we wish for. But since songs like these can speak for themselves, I won't hold that against anybody.

Sharon Van Etten - Seventeen

A: Sharon Van Etten
S: Seventeen

Van Etten’s Remind Me Tomorrow came out on Friday and was already shaping up as a major moment in the singer-songwriter’s career beforehand, boosting the emotional clarity of her past work with a new pop power. Take Seventeen, a total synth-buzzed stunner. Like previous single Comeback Kid, it sounds like a song about memories and past selves. I used to be free/I used to be 17, she sings.

... now you're just like me.

So take your hard earned cash and buy a hard record or cassette and buy some real music like we used to. This one especially will be worth every dime, penny, or cent.

Brandon Flowers sings about institutional racism, immigration, incarceration, gun violence and of course Trump’s proposed U.S.-Mexico border wall. Filmed by Spike Lee, this is the song not just said land of the free, but the world, needs right now.

Late last year, Julia Holter released a new album called Aviary. Samantha Mumba - Always Come Back To Your Love

A: Samantha Mumba
S: Always Come Back To Your Love

Throwback, y'all! Too soon? Yeah didn't think so. Remember when the Noughties started and we thought music was a total disaster? Some twenty years and a couple of rounds down the drain later we realize the sonorous Armageddon happened in this decade. And it wasn't just worse than we thought, it actually makes us long for songs like this.

Wovoka Gentle - 1,000 Opera Singers Working In Starbucks

A: Wovoka Gentle
S: 1,000 Opera Singers Working In Starbucks

This London trio called Wovoka Gentle has returned with a new single, counting exactly 1,000 Opera Singers Working in Starbucks. The song perfectly showcases the band's composite sound, on which solid songwriting nods in different directions to experimental pop, electronics and a touch of psychedelia - a true cocktail of styles. Think White Russian, or maybe Hemingway.
