Rachael Yamagata - Starlight

Starlight - Rachael Yamagata from Keith Overton on Vimeo.

A: Rachael Yamagata
S: Starlight
C: Chesapeake (out 11.10.11)

Apparently, this video was shot on entirely on a Canon 5D (the original parts anyway). I personally don't like Canon, because everybody who is somebody or nobody has one. Canon is like PC to me. And I don't like the logo, nor the font. But the Cd Cover of Rachael's forthcoming album Chesapeake (out 11.10.11, by the way) was designed on an iPhone, apparently. Now that's more like it.

Florence + the Machine - What The Water Gave Me

Florence + the Machine - What The Water Gave Me [Official Music Video] from Back Alley Journals on Vimeo.

A: Florence + the Machine
S: What The Water Gave Me
C: What The Water Gave Me - Single

So the single was already released yesterday and the video probably weeks ago, what do I care. It's not my fault this blog only posts one song per day, is it? Probably is, I know. Anyway, the album will be released on the 4th of November. My granddad's birthday that is, was. And while the world waits, Florence dedicates this video to all her fans, at least that's what the press release said.

Will Young - Jealousy

Will Young - Jealousy from Pop Labyrinth on Vimeo.

A: Will Young
S: Jealousy
C: Echoes

Funny little song: I'm not keen on the video (Will Young as an acrobat, come on), nor the song (upbeat whatever). But the title - very interesting. Think about it. Of all the feelings we have, love, hate, fear, and so on, jealousy is the worst. It's all rolled into one. The fear of loving in vain, of being disappointed, of getting hurt. And the worst of it: It's all in your head, and you're all alone with it.

The Amplifetes - Somebody New

The Amplifetes - Somebody New from Anders Hellman Design on Vimeo.

A: The Amplifetes
S: Somebody New
C: The Amplifetes

Honestly, I wouldn't have a clue what to say today. So let's do what I normally do and chose the bull'hit option. It's Sunday morning and much to early if you believe in sleeping in which I don't, I'm sitting here in my denim shirt and my gym shorts which looks stupid and I'm kind of trying to design a logo for something or nothing and boy, do I suck at it.

Bon Iver - Holocene

A: Bon Iver
S: Holocene
C: Bon Iver

I've been told that this is one for the weekend. And it is the weekend now, and it's a doomy gloomy one where, at least in Berlin, the temperature have dropped after yesterday's heatwave and there's that little sad melancholy feeling hanging in the air, I think. At least that's the effect a temperature drop always has on me. Then again, being more or less emotionless, I don't know what I'm going on about.

Charo - Dance A Little Bit Closer

A: Charo
S: Dance A Little Bit Closer
C: Cuchi-Cuchi

Nowadays, Charo, or if you prefer to call her by her real name: María Rosario Pilar Martínez Molina Gutiérrez de los Perales Santa Ana Romanguera y de la Hinojosa Rasten, only sings on cruise ships, I've heard. Besides that I have only got one thing to say to you: The weekend starts just about right now and I abso-fcuking-lutely-love-love-love-please-can-we-hop-on-a-plane-right-now-and-go-to-Las-Vegas!?

Oh Land - White Nights

Oh Land - White Nights from CANADA on Vimeo.

A: Oh Land
S: White Nights
C: Oh Land

For the very unlikely case that somebody doesn't know Oh Land yet, here's the follow up to her last and highly successful single 'Son Of A Gun'. The video, to me (but you obviously have to look for yourself), is a bit of 'Oh I couldn't decide on the outfit or the scenery or the message or whatever, and since I'm Scandinavian it makes perfect sense if I threw it all together and used everything at once'.

The Cinematic Orchestra - To Build A Home - in: LA Light by Colin Rich

LA Light from Colin Rich on Vimeo.

A: The Cinematic Orchestra
S: To Build A Home
C: Ma Fleur

V: LA Light by Colin Rich

Right, so today is not about the song. Well it is, but it's not. Here, the song is by The Cinematic Orchestra, done. Today is about the video: It's stop motion! I love stop motion, but I think this one is like better than any that I've ever seen, no? Doesn't even look like stop motion to me. It took Colin Rich 6 months to shot the footage, apparently meeting a police officer or two along the way.

Housse de Racket - Roman

A: Housse de Racket
S: Roman
C: Roman - Single

Who is Housse de Racket? Who's the Racket? Frankly, I don't know. But they are signed to Kitsuné and that's always great. What is great and not so great is that there are too many songs around to post. I feel like a woman having her period, I think. Although I don't know how a woman having her period feels, but from what I read, this is as close as it gets. I think. But what do I know anyway.

Retro Stefson - Kimba

A: Retro Stefson
S: Kimba
C: Kimbabwe

There's an intro! But it's worth the wait. Now, is this funky or is this funky? Frankly, I haven't seen something like this in a long time. Seriously, alternative dance pop in tights whilst there is a gymnastic dance routine thing going on? So anyway, this cocktail of European, South-American, African and North-American music comes out of an island in the North-Atlantic (Iceland) that is.

Gypsy & The Cat - Jona Vark

A: Gypsy & The Cat
S: Jona Vara
C: Gilgamesh
V: Video on Tape.Tv

Here's to tape.tv - the site where music videos are accessible even in Germany where normally all the music videos are blocked. Yes yes of course I knew the page before and several people have suggested months ago that I should have a look on there but what I don't discover myself, I usually don't like. Sometimes I have to learn the hard way. So prepare for a massive race to catch up!

Lucy Rose - Middle Of The Bed

A: Lucy Rose
S: Middle Of The Bed
C: Middle Of The Bed - Single

It's a bit of Kate Nash, a tad of Polly Scattergood, maybe a dash of Lily Allen, maybe not, and a pinch of Patty Griffin, and whatever else there is or has been around in Singer/Songwriter-ish ladies. My point: It's totally unique. And I like and love it. What else? Lucy Rose seems to be from London, at least that's what it says on her minimalistic Facebook info page. Anyway, perfect soundtrack to this Saturday.

CANT - Answer

A: CANT
S: Answer
C: Dreams Come True (out 13.09.11)

I'll do this quickly because I have done it before. So, CANT is Chris Taylor of Grizzly Bear and the album is out on the 13th of September. My thoughts on the whole thing? Maybe not 100% my cup of tea but i like it. Bit dark, bit gloomy. Minimalism is bliss. And the reduction of the arrangements creates a feeling much larger than the song itself. That's about it, worth a point, I've heard.

Penguin Prison - Fair Warning

A: Penguin Prison
S: Fair Warning
C: Penguin Prison (out 05.09.11)

This is fun and therefore worth a try. I haven't listened to the song, nor watched the video and didn't even read anything about the artist. But I'm posting it anyway. The name sounds like fun, the video looked funny, and the person who posted it originally is usually a great reference. Then again, thinking about. So anyway, as you see, I don't do much else than recycling. But if you ask me, I do it quite well.

The Asteroids Galaxy Tour - The Golden Age

A: The Asteroids Galaxy Tour
S: The Golden Age
C: Fruit

This post is supposed to be about the band and the song, and not about Heineken. Nor about Wieden+Kennedy, the agency that produced the spot. I liked the old one better anyway, the one with the built in fridge closet, remember that? Tho there was no music in it, true. If you watch closely, you will notice that this is in fact some sort of music video. Oh and yeah, drink responsibly, by the way. Whatever that means.

Jeff Bridges - What A Little Bit Of Love Can Do

A: Jeff Bridges
S: What A Little bit Of Love Can Do
C: Jeff Bridges

Oh look, it's that actor we all love. I think so, no? I do anyway. Of course the original video is blocked for embedding or watching in this little country called Germany but clever as I am I found this audio track kind of thing. And no, this is not Jeff Bridges' first album, he already released one back in the millennium year called, hang on, let me just check, right: Be Here soon. This one now is self titled.

Theme Park - A Mountain We Love

A: Theme Park
S: A Mountain We Love
C: A Mountain We Love - Single (out 29.08.11)

So I don't know anything about Theme Park (besides that they are from London, UK) and that, apparently, this song made somebody think of me. Which is kind of alright with me, I guess, but raises more questions than it answers such. Besides that today is Monday so my brain is still a bit slow, if it isn't like that in general, possibly maybe. Let's hope tomorrow will be different. Possibly not.

Kid Cudi Feat. Cee-Lo Green - Scott Mescudi vs. The World

A: Kid Cudi Feat. Cee-Lo Green
S: Scott Mescudi vs. The World
C: Man On The Moon II: The Legend Of Mr. Rager

So, due to highly popular demand (basically by nobody else but myself who had this song on repeat for the past 32 hours, nonstop) and very current events (they built a wall in berlin 50 years ago), I'd like to post this very matching tune that has a line or two in the chorus that goes something like this: '.. if it's real to you, we can meet on the other side'.

Kiss - I Was Made For Loving You

A: Kiss
S: I Was Made For Loving You
C: Dynasty

Funny coincidence. I am flicking through songs I planned to post but never did, and found this one which I considered exactly a year ago, plus I slept in my H&M Kiss T-Shirt, which I bought in the children section (if you opt for the biggest size you get away with it, even as an adult). In short, if you ask me, old anthems never sound as good as on the weekend, a day like today, so this is it, have a smashing weekend.

Snow Patrol - Called Out In The Dark

A: Snow Patrol
S: Called Out In The Dark
C: Called Out In The Dark - Single (out 12.08.11)

Here's the good news: Snow Patrol wrote the bestest pop song since this new millennium started. Maybe even since the wall in Berlin came tumbling down, who knows. Then there is the not so great news: They will never ever top Chasing Cars again. And here's the conclusion: It doesn't really matter, because it's still a greatest pleasure to hear them trying. Ps: Called Out In The Dark is released today.

House of Blondes - Do It Yourself

A: House of Blondes
S: Do It Yourself
C: Clean Cuts

Today is going to be a short one. First, I overslept, which I hate. No caffein before I leave the house is not the perfect start to the day. Second, today is a busy day, which is good, I guess, but not what you want when researching a band. Last, I did try to find some info about the band, which wasn't an easy thing to do, because all google came up with was some suggestions for hair salons. But I know that the band's from Berlin.

Poly Styrene - Ghoulish

A: Poly Styrene
S: Ghoulish
C: Generation Indigo

If this blog was political, I probably would have posted 'I Predict A Riot' by Kaiser Chiefs by now, referring to London, and pointing out that somebody had it coming, or going on about the pointlessness (that is a word, I checked!) of what's happening. But it isn't a political blog and this isn't Kaiser Chiefs but Poly Styrene who refers to a Michael Jackson casting in some way or the other, I think.

Washed Out - Soft

A: Washed Out
S: Soft
C: Within & Without

Today is all about the cover, obviously, because this one is great, obviously, just in case you didn't notice yourself. Washed Out is musician Ernest Greene from Perry, Georgia, where his style of music has been identified with the chill wave movement, says his Facialbook page, and that he has identified hip hop as influencing the way he writes songs. Do you get that, I mean, really?

Example - Stay Awake

A: Example
S: Stay Awake
C: Stay Awake - Single (out 28.08.11)

I would love to like Elliot Gleave aka Example a little bit less, but I couldn't if I wanted (not that I'm really trying). This is so good it's bad and so bad that it's good. Well it put me in a more jolly good mood on this sunny morning anyway. So I read that Example is highly popular in the UK (no comment) and will have his new album out early October on Ministry Of Sound (who cares).

When Saints Go Machine - Fail Forever

A: When Saints Go Machine
S: Fail Forever
C: Konkylie

I'm kind of pretending that there is a system error occurring right here, right now and that in fact there is no comment to this video because I can't even think about thinking what to write today. The brain is a blur and as soon as I try to focus on one thing only the whole thing starts drifting, probably even shifting, who knows. So this is all I've got to say for today: It's a system error.

Kanye West & Jay-Z Feat. Otis Redding - Otis

A: Kanye West & Jay-Z Feat. Otis Redding
S: Otis
C: Watch The Throne (out 12.08.11)

I'm in a total Kanye state of mind at the moment so you shouldn't take me too serious anyway, but: How ace is this!? I wish I was more homely in the whole hip-hop lingo. Homely homo homie. Anyway, in case you haven't heard, Kay and Jay teamed up to release an album together, it's called 'Watch The Throne' and is out a week from today. Until then, I keep looping this little track on youtube.

Age of Consent - The Beach

A: Age of Consent
S: The Beach
C: The Beach - Single (out 05.09.11)

The 5th of August already, and I've been traveling around the city for the past two days without any ticket for public transport. Heaven knows what Madonna was on about when she had the idea that 'time goes by so slowly' - if you ask me, it's racing by. On the act: Age of Consent, lonodn based, are Joe Reeves and Darren Cullen, former members of Shitdisco... whoever that was.

Brett Dennen Feat. Natalie Merchant - Heaven

A: Brett Dennen Feat. Natalie Merchant
S: Heaven

I love Brett Dennen, I'm a big fan of anything ginger anyway. And I love love Natalie Merchant. The song was originally recorded as a solo show for Bret's 'Hope For The Hopeless', before he dragged Natalie to the studio for this update, which then appeared on the sixth season of Grey's Anatomy where it caught my attention. Because it's good, and the only ever use the best songs on that show.

Yuksek - On A Train

A: Yuksek
S: On A Train
C: Living On The Edge Of Time

Is it a bad thing if I like the video more than the song? No it's not, because in this democracy called entertainment business you can like or dislike whatever you want. So anyway, for those who didn't know, like myself, shame on me, Yuksek, as in Pierre-Alexandre Busson, is a French electronic music producer, remixer and DJ who has just released his second album 'Living On The Edge Of Time'.

This Is Personal

Maverick Sabre - Look What I've Done

A: Maverick Sabre
S: Look What I've Done
C: Maverick Sabre (out 24.10.11)

It sounds a bit like The Streets, a bit like Devlin, a bit like Plan B, and probably a bit like Maverick himself, which is fine with me. I got into a huge verbal fight the other day because I think every artist is original in it's own way, and some prick said everybody is a copy of anybody. Apparently Coldplay is the commercial version of Radiohead. Yeah right. Sure it's all about marketing. As I said, prick.

Big Talk - Replica

A: Big Talk
S: Replica
C: Big Talk

I am so super exquisitely excited about this one. Big Talk, as in Ronnie Vannucci Jr., as in The Killers drummer, is running solo, and lose! Ok there is somebody else in Big Talk, some Taylor Milne, whoever, just so you know I know. The thing is, just as like The Killers, there might be a better song or record somewhere out there, but this is the greatest of fun, and it smells all so much much of Las Vegas, as in Nevada.
