Moullinex & Peaches - Maniac

A: Moullinex & Peaches
S: Maniac
C: Casablanca Reworks

This might just be nothing less than simply the best version of this song. As in ever. As for the video, I've been told that you shouldn't watch it when your boss is standing behind you. Sorry, should I have mentioned this earlier? Then again, depending on the boss, you might just score an extra point or two. I know that I totally would.

... and she's dancing like she's never danced before.

Alex Turner - Piledriver Waltz

A: Alex Turner
S: Piledriver Waltz
C: Submarine - EP

Alex Turner, singer of the fantastic Arctic Monkeys, wrote a song or two (actually it was 6) for the movie Submarine, released in 2010. Some might know this, some might not. Anyway, the Brit Awards nominations are out, and NME as well as my humble self aren't too impressed, and NME crowned the Submarine EP as 2011's best - so here you go.

... your waitress was miserable - and so was your food.

Benjamin Francis Leftwich - Pictures

A: Benjamin Francis Leftwich
S: Pictures
C: Last Smoke Before The Snowstorm

There are some artists I post on here and then eventually forget about, because the albums take forever to be released. Well and then I eventually rediscover some of them. Like Benjamin Francis Leftwich, for example. I'm a bit like that with real people too, I think, which is probably not the most sociable thing to admit, but I'll do it anyway.

... if you are afraid dont be - I have the whole thing planned.

We Have Band - Where Are Your People?

We Have Band - Where Are Your People? (Official Music Video) from We Have Band on Vimeo.

A: We Have Band
S: Where Are Your People?
C: Ternion (out 29.01.12)

How very funny, now I won't get political on this blog of mine, but this song sounds like it has been written for that italian captain sinking that cruise ship. It's all there, lyricwise: YOU'RE RUNNING FROM YOUR PEOPLE, and: HERE IN THE COLD WITH A BREEZE WE'RE ASKING FOR YOU, plus: FLEEING THE SCENE OF THE CRIME BUT WE WILL FIND YOU.

... jump in the fire - empty words and clever games, of which we tire.

DJ Shadow Feat. Little Dragon - Scale It Back

DJ Shadow "Scale It Back" ft. Little Dragon from DJ Shadow on Vimeo.

A: DJ Shadow Feat. Little Dragon
S: Scale It Back
C: The Less You Know, The Better

In case you are watching this you needn't worry, the song will start eventually. And end, as well. While the video keeps playing on, having an ending that is even more bizarre, which I love, of course. As well as Little Dragon, this year being the year of Dragons anyway. As for who DJ Shadow is, no need to worry about such details, I think.

... and I thought I heard someone say: Fly far away.

The Cast Of Cheers - Family

A: The Cast Of Cheers
S: Family
C: Chariot

Honestly, I got the Lana Del Rey album today and I can't think of much else, musicwise. But this is the The Cast Of Cheers with their debut single called Family. The Lana album is gorgeous, by the way. So The Cast Of Cheers remind me a bit of the early Arctic Monkeys, attitude-wise. And I love a stop motion video any day anyway.

... my eyes keep moving ever closer to the door.

Ladyhawke - Black, White & Blue

A: Ladyhawke
S: Black, White & Blue
C: Anxiety (out 20.02.12)

This track is new, by the way. So new that there isn't even a video out yet. Anyway, Ladyhawke is Phillipa "Pip" Brown, from New Zealand, and before she was Ladyhawke she formed the band Teenager with Nick Littlemore of Pnau and Empire of the Sun. As for what's up next, the album Anxiety, her second, will be out next month, 20.02.12 to be exact.

... but this is real life, oh no - you can’t fight it.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie

A: Red Hot Chili Peppers
S: The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie
C: I'm With You

I have to admit that I am not really really into the Red Hot Chili Peppers. They just are one of those bands that passed my by. But I love this track and video, although I think there is just one real rooftop terrace concert, which was by U2, although I am not into them either, because they passed my by too. Maybe I'm just not into rooftop terrace bands at all.

... tic-toc, I want to rock you like the 80s.

Memory Tapes - Yes I Know

Memory Tapes "Yes I Know" from Najork on Vimeo.

A: Memory Tapes
S: Yes I Know
C: Player Piano

Ok so nobody is overly keen on The Who. And I have absolutely no idea what to write today. Except, I hate stairs. And I hate lazy people. Which might seem strange because not liking stairs might indicate some form of lazyness, but it's not. Not liking stairs is something practical, where being lazy is just bad time management, basically.

... you're a voice without a sound.

The Who - You Better You Bet

A: The Who
S: You Better You Bet

Since there is this thing going around on a book called face (find out the number one single when you were born and post it) and I am pretty sure I have already posted mine (which was Queen Feat. Bowie - Under Pressure, at least in the UK, which explains a lot), this has been the greatest re-discovery in that discussion, if you can call it that.

... I call you on the telephone - my voice too rough with cigarettes.

21 Januar 2012

Big Foote Feat. Sun For Moon - Crazy Crazy Nights

A: Big Foote Feat. Sun For Moon
S: Crazy Crazy Nights
C: Crazy Crazy Nights - Single

This is, obviously, a cover version of the brilliant KISS song - and the sound of the latest Smirnoff campaign, which is quite brilliant too, because it states: Don't wait for an extraordinary night - make one. No I am not getting any free booze out of this - thinking about it, I should. But I like covers, they let you discover new things about old songs.

... if life is a radio, turn it up to 10.

20 Januar 2012

... missed already - RIP.

A: Etta James
S: At Last

... and life is like a song.

Boy & Bear - Feeding Line

A: Boy & Bear
S: Feeding Line
C: Moonfire

Despite the fact that I couldn't find a decent sound quality version of this song has nothing got to do with how brilliant this song and band are. You might want to settle them somewhere between Mumford & Sons and Young Rebel Set. The best part of the whole thing is that they are from Sydney, Australia, although I would never go there.

... and finding it hard is a feeling that all of you know.

19 Januar 2012

Santigold - Big Mouth

A: Santigold
S: Big Mouth
C: Master Of My Make Believe (out later on this year)

So I never really got this renaming from Santogold to Santigold. Who knows, maybe by her thrid album it will be Santagold. That wouldn't be such a bad idea actually. And then, eventually, she would run out of vowels. Anyway, 2012 seems to develop it's very own pretty preppy sound already - and I like what I hear and I hear what I like. For a change.

18 Januar 2012

Sébastien Tellier - Pépito Bleu

A: Sébastien Tellier
S: Pépito Bleu
C: My God Is Blue (out 13.04.12)

Well there isn't much to say about Sébastien Tellier. To me, it's an artist where words just don't make that much sense when it comes to either describing him or his music. So I won't. Let me just say that the album will be out mid April, this year, and from the looks, it will be much more spiritual than the last one, which is much more sexual.

17 Januar 2012

Tribes - Sent To Earth

A: Tribes
S: Sent To Earth
C: Baby (out 16.01.12)

This will do for today. Tribes' (finally again a band without the oh so common The) album was released yesterday, not that I knew we were waiting for it but I think I will like them by the time I have finished writing this post, even if this isn't the most original video ever surfacing on this blog. But it will do for today, I promise you.

16 Januar 2012

The Maccabees - Love You Better

A: The Maccabees
S: Love You Better
C: Wall Of Arms

In order to celebrate their new album, I'm simply posting a song of their old one. Because I can, and because I couldn't find a newer video. And, of course, because this is a smashing song. And last but not least, because NME (which I got as a subscription now - as a belated but amazing birthday present) said in 2012, The Maccabees will take the world by storm.

15 Januar 2012

Marina & The Diamonds - Radioactive

A: Marina & The Diamonds
S: Radioactive
C: Radioactive

So they released a song last year, didn't know that. And Marina went halfway blond, didn't know that either. And what about an album following this single? Haven't got a clue. Sometimes it's nice to be clueless, I think, in general. Taking the luxury of deciding not to know certain things is nice. Some people might call it arrogance, but I'd disagree.

14 Januar 2012

... I thought I try my own luck - it couldn't hurt.

A: The Ghosts
S: Enough Time
C: Enough Time - EP (out 22.01.12)

Here's a word which I only learned yesterday, which is weird, because it's like my favourite thing to do when writing these little notes accompanying the daily songs - digress - love it. I mean the actual activity, not the word itself. And in case anybody cares, which I am sure nobody does, I found it on a Burger King ad, which is grand, too.

13 Januar 2012

... we once were the loved ones, we once were the lost ones.

A: Firefox AK
S: Color The Trees
C: Color The Trees

Berlin is the city where the car drivers brake for the bikers, just saying. Anyway, Firefox AK is the stage name of swedish Andrea Kellerman. Apparently she is married to Karl Rasmus Kellerman, stage named musician Tiger Lou. I never get how couples can be doing the same thing professionally. I mean look at Abba, since we are in Sweden, it never works.

12 Januar 2012

... you broke my lungs, my tongue, you broke my arms.

A: Vanbot
S: Numb
C: Vanbot

Vanbot is, frankly speaking and please bare in mind that I basically never compare artists, like Robyn. Which isn't a bad thing, because Robyn is quite great, and now there are two great artists around. Love and peace and harmony to the world - right, I will get a hold of myself again. Did I mention Vanbot sounds like Robyn? Yeah I think I did.

11 Januar 2012

... give me nights of solitude - red wine just a glass or two.

A: Brooke Fraser
S: Something In The Water
C: Something In The Water - Single

As somebody on 'a tube called you' wrote: what the freak is the water? After Cloud Control and Florence & The Machine, here's another artist who takes on the question of the thing in it. Fine with me. I actually thought the song was years old, but it's not. Which isn't a good thing, probably. Then again, if it is a good song, it is a good song.

10 Januar 2012

... und fang ich an zu schnarchen man dann schnarcht sie einfach mit.

A: Till Sunrise
S: Sie ist noch wie ein Kind

I figured it was time for another German song for some time now, and here's what I found. There might be another one or two reasons for posting this, but they are mainly personal, and I wouldn't want to bother you with all that jazz - because this blog is all about music. Well and maybe today about a certain dog too. And a little bit political, I guess.

09 Januar 2012

... it's ok to feel the rain on my hands.

A: Alpine
S: Hands
C: Hands - Single

So I figure the best way to fight Monday mornings is to ignore them, simply think 24 hours ahead and the world only seems half as bad. I'm doing that by kicking off the new week with a song by my new favourite band Alpine, which is, surprisingly, on no other Artist to Watch in 2012 list but my very own, which makes things twice as exciting.

08 Januar 2012

... weekends are never fun - unless you're around here too.

Smith Westerns - "Weekend" from Fat Possum Records on Vimeo.

A: Smith Westerns
S: Weekend
C: Dye It Blonde

Blogging a song on a weekend that is actually called Weekend is sheer brilliance on my behalf, I know that (sheer being one of my favourite words, by the way). But I won't take any credit for picking the song, because it was a recommendation, and apparently Smith Westerns sound like Girls or something but like a bit different and stuff.

07 Januar 2012

... let all the dreamers wake the nation.

A: Carly Simon
S: Let The River Run
C: Working Girl - OST

Jeez, what a mouth. Ok the lyrics on this one might be a bit borderlinie-ish, but it won an Oscar and a Golden Globe so it will do for a fantastic 80s revival effort on this rainy and grey Saturday morning, well, afternoon. As for the video, I'm still struck with sadness when I see the Twin Towers. Most likely because I never saw them live.

06 Januar 2012

... you were like weed in a time of need.

A: Lawrence Arabia
S: Apple Pie Bed
C: Chant Darling

This will do for a Friday, some soap bubbles enriched, styled to the max, masquerade slash underwear party in light rose. I love writing slash instead of slashing it, if you know what I mean. Anyway, Lawrence Arabia is the band, not the movie (that's good if you don't want to get mixed up, I guess, as in: not), not from Arabia but New Zealand.

05 Januar 2012

... I do exactly what I want when I'm with him - and when I'm not.

A: Friends
S: I'm His Girl
C: I'm His Girl - Single

Here's more on what went missing last year, meaning left to discover this year: Friends. Meanwhile, I'm rediscovering the pros (huge: solitude is bliss, is all I'm saying) of commuting to work on a bike instead of PT (yes, public transfort) which basically means I'm trying to convince myself why I would pedal through a wet winter before 9am.

04 Januar 2012

... I fell in love and all I did was cry.

A: Jake Bugg
S: Someone Told Me (Acoustic)
C: Someone Told Me - Single

18 years old this year, in case that was the first question on your mind. And Jake already played Glastonbury last year. And they compare him to The Tallest Man On Earth (understandable) and Bob Dylon (maybe we'll wait onther year for that). As for his lyrics writting, the above mentioned line, taking a sad take on love so easily, is pure brilliance.

03 Januar 2012

... she gon’ vote for Obama, and she likes to dance with Madonna.

A: Scissor Sisters Feat. Krystal Pepsy
S: Shady Love
C: Shady Love - Single

Well who would have thought that the New Year would start kicking so soon, certainly not me. But here we go and up today are Scissor Sisters, with a new sound that everybody is raving about. The last thing I heard was that they went bankrupt and I had to return my concert ticket. So apparently being pennyless might be inspirational.

02 Januar 2012

... yeah I’m Rapunzel - who are you bitch, new lunch?

A: AZEALIA BANKS FEAT. LAZY JAY
S: 212
C: 212 - Single

This will do for today, as Azealia is on about every Artist To Watch in 2012 list there is. Which doesn't say much, to be frank - I've seen people on watch lists and they never appeared anywhere else again, just saying. As else, I picked my New Year resolution which is daily flossing. Already missed out on that last night. Enough said I'd say.

01 Januar 2012

... we make out in your Mustang to Radiohead.

Katy Perry -- The One That Got Away - MyVideo

A: Katy Perry
S: The One That Got Away
C: Teenage Dream

It's the first day of the new year and I haven't seen daylight. Off to a promising start, I'd say. And because of that, as well as in general, I think the first of January is nothing but a delusion. Which is why this little song with the 'in another life' theme is nothing but matching. And I like the artwork. And the Johnny Cash song at the end.
