Radiohead - Creep

A: Radiohead
S: Creep
C: Pablo Honey

Ah well, the beauty of sheer pain never goes out of fashion. This song has been around for over 17 years, and I still shiver inside when I put it on. I'm glad I'm nowhere near a big Radiohead fan, because I always forget about this song, which makes me discover it all over again, when I do remember it. It's simply impossible to pick my favorite line in those stunning lyrics. Nothing less than a milestone in music history.

Glasser - Tremel

A: Glasser
S: Tremel
C: Ring

Back in the days, if I remember correctly, we were all keen to 'put our hands in the air'. Nowadays, simply put them in a music video. Which works perfectly nice, I think. The Guardian Uk called glasser 'a synth siren that sounds like a weirder and more credible version of Enya' - which I think is a bit far fetched, I mean, seriously, Enya? I wouldn't even know what she sounded like really, let alone being able to compare an artist to her.

Brandon Flowers - Only The Young

A: Brandon Flowers
S: Only The Young
C: Flamingo

Finally! The thing to say: to me, Brandon's solo album is in the top two of the best albums this year so far (and slowly but surely chances are running out of many others following - ps: the other one being The National with High Violet). Anyway, if you get the chance, do what I did this year: fly to Vegas, rent a car, drive up and down the bloody Strip round twilight or sunset, and listen to Flamingo. Epicness.

Nick Cave Feat. Kylie Minogue - Where The Wild Roses Grow

Where the wild roses grow from Jean on Vimeo.

A: Nick Cave Feat. Kylie Minogue
S: Where The Wild Roses Grow
C: Murder Ballads

It's my birthday and I post what I want to.. Remember this one? It's not so much of a feature but more a duet, I guess. And depending on which record you check, it is either her featuring him, or the other way round. But I do believe that Nick's involvement in creating the song was a bit bigger than Kylie's, so there you go. To me, one of the most brilliant collaborations ever with. Having said that, Kylie's always great when duetting with other male artists.

Belle And Sebastian Feat. Norah Jones - Little Lou, Ugly Jack, Prophet John

A: Belle And Sebastian Feat. Norah Jones
S: Little Lou, Ugly Jack, Prophet John
C: Write About Love

No don't judge this one too soon. For some strange reason, it became hip not to like Norah Jones. Which is totally irrational and I would like to point out that to me, Norah is hip. Having said that, when an artist is featured by Belle And Sebastian, nothing can go wrong really. The beauty is in the lyrics:
Can I see what's underneath your bed?
Can I stay until the milkman's working?
Can I stay until the coffee awakes?

Kid Cudi Feat. Kanye West - Erase Me

A: Kid Cudi Feat. Kanye West
S: Erase Me
C: Man On The Moon, Vol. ll

When I buy wine I often go for the label. Meaning, if I like the label I will buy the wine and if I like the label I most probably like the wine too. Well and then the price kind of matters, too. When buying records I am exactly the same (yes I still do buy records). So if I don't know anything about the artist I just go for the artwork. Music videos are kind of the same, if I like them it is hard not to like to song, and I love this one.

Freddy Mercury Feat. Montserrat Caballé - La Japonaise

A: Freddy Mercury Feat. Montserrat Caballé
S: La Japonaise
C: Barcelona

Today, 19 years ago, Freddy died. To me, personally, he was the greatest entertainer of all times and I am still waiting for all Queen songs to be included on UNESCO's world cultural heritage list. So, in order to camp this week up just to sadden it down at the same time, I post this song by Mr. Mercury featuring some unknown yet pretty talented opera singer from Spain, or wherever.

Crystal Castles Feat. Robert Smith - Not In Love

A: Crystal Castles Feat. Robert Smith
S: Not In Love
C: Crystal Castles (II)

Maybe I will turn this week into some sort of featuring week, how about that. From yesterday's grand featuresque supercombo we move on to today's get together of one of Britain's greatest artists of all times (Robert Smith, that is) and Canada's experimental electronic music band du jour. Reviews on Youtube range from 'just raped the fuck out of the replay button' to 'we will all remember the first time we ever heard this song'.

Ecomog Feat. Aloe Blacc & Au - I Need A Dollar

A: Ecomog Feat. Aloe Blacc & Au
S: I Need A Dollar
C: Good Things

Talking about Sundays yesterday, I came to realize that Mondays aren't my favorite days of the week either. Maybe it's because Mondays are so close to Sundays. Anyways, I'll shut the 'What Day Is Ace' monologue now. Here's another one coming up: how many dollars does one need. If you ask me, more than one. If you ask Ecomog & Aloe Blacc & Au, one will do. Maybe not...

A-Minus - My Mind's Away

A: A-Minus
S: My Mind's Away
C: Almost And Maybe

Well. I guess I will not comment on the video, for once. It did remind me of a typical Sunday in a way though, which is my least favorite day of the week. Always has been, always will be. Even as a child I was always happy to go back to school on a Monday. And I hated my birthdays on Sundays, I was always worried that if somebody forgot to buy me a present, they would have no chance to get one last minute 'cos the shops were closed.

Tame Impala - Solitude is Bliss

A: Tame Impala
S: Solitude is Bliss
C: Innerspeaker

Everytime I hear this song on the radio, on the rare occasions when I do listen to the radio, which is basically never, I'm all like 'ah this tune is quite good, what is it' - then I check (as in Shazzzam it) and I think 'right, I know it already'. I do love the whole what is and isn't bliss debate in song lyrics (remember that Maximo Park sang 'ignorance isn't bliss') so Tame Impala's contribution add nicely to the collection.

19 November 2010

Take That - The Flood

A: Take That
S: The Flood
C: Progress

I have contemplated posting this one for a while now and decided if I don't do it today (now that the album is out in Heidiland), I am never gonna post it. Anyway, think of the music whatever you want, to me the whole re-reunion story is one of the best ones ever told in pop music business and history. Plus their old stuff is the soundtrack to my early teenage years, so there will always be some midlife crisis cure in there.

18 November 2010

Duck Sauce - Barbra Streisand

A: Duck Sauce
S: Barbra Streisand
C: Barbra Streisand - EP

Barbra... she might not be on any of my any favourite artist list, but as a song she works perfectly fine with me. This might just be the best video of the year, but I guess we'll see about that in six weeks time. Plus it might be the summer hit we were waiting for all summer long and finally turned up super late in November. After all, what was that Yolanda all about. I heart NY, that's all.

17 November 2010

Rah Band - Clouds Across The Moon

A: Rah Band
S: Clouds Across The Moon
C: Mystery

As I learned last night, this is the ultimate far distance relationship anthem, although it might push the definition of 'far' a little bit too, well, far. Being born in the 80s myself, I might have mentioned this earlier on this year on several occasions, I don't understand why we ever let that glorious time of camp banana styling end. After all, Lady G. doesn't look that freaking special anymore after this one.

16 November 2010

The Streets - Trust Me

A: The Streets
S: Trust Me
C: Computer And Blues (out 07.02.11)

Apparently, this leaked in 2009 already, which totally slipped me and obviously shockes me utterly and butterly. Even more so because, apparently, 'Computer And Blues' will be the last album released by Mike Skinner as The Streets. Although he hasn't confirmed it. Still, for me, The Streets will always be the sexiest, sassiest and most relevent British Hip Hop act of all times. Trust me, I know.

15 November 2010

The Naked And Famous - Young Blood

A: The Naked And Famous
S: Young Blood
C: Young Blood - Single

Here's the deal: put some summer into your November, put some funk into that so called Monday junk, indulge this lazyness with some crazyness, have a break, grab a KitKat - opt for a Mars and do pleasure you can't measure. Or watch this clip on a Sony Bravia, for color like no other... Shockingly, I'm not even getting paied for all this. Did I mention I like the band name? Just in case, stranger things have happened on a monday.

Our Broken Garden - When Your Blackening Shows

A: Our Broken Garden
S: When Your Blackening Shows
C: When Your Blackening Shows

Celebrating one year A Song A Day Keeps The Doctor Away today, just in case some of you weren't there from the start. Which I would like to take as the opportunity to thank everybody who has joined since then. And kind of everybody who is still to come. Enjoy this sunny sunday of yours with this haunting piece of music by Our Broken Garden.

Sunday Girl - Self Control

A: Sunday Girl
S: Self Control
C: Self Control - EP

Stunning, both girl and video. If you ask me, for my sense of style, probably the most stylish video this year. You might always debate if cover songs are clever or not, but if they add their personal touch, it is fine with me. According to an anonymous source on youtube, this girl does all her own art work, comes up with video ideas and writes all her own original songs. From reading her blog i dont think she is trying to beat the old versions just cover a song she loves to pay homage to it in her own way. i like it!

12 November 2010

Robert Francis - Darkness - Live

A: Robert Francis
S: Darkness - Live
C: Before Nightfall

Although I try to keep this little blog of mine 'live performance' free (you know: bad recording quality, lack of lightning on stage, long intros, the chatting of the audience), I could not not post this clip of Mister Francis performing the opening track of his second album live. I liked the song on the record, but never imagined there could be such raw emotion and intensity in it. Attention: goosebumps alert!

11 November 2010

We Are Standard - On The Floor

A: We Are Standard
S: On The Floor
C: We Are Standard

I'm about as excited as a popcorn about this one, let's face it: Spain has never sounded so British, ever. Frankly shocked that I only discovered the song yesterday although it has been released three years ago. Which basically means We Are Standard have been around longer than We Have Band. Anyway, raunchy as can be, I love lyrics that are simple as candy and go something like 'I want you baby - on the floor'.

10 November 2010

Geographer - Can't You Wait

A: Geographer
S: Can't You Wait
C: Innocent Ghosts

Think of music videos as of dating: the inner values matter most (at least that's what I've been told, although I never really got my head around it). Meaning, it is the song that you fall in love with, not the video. As I said, I have serious doubts about that principle when it comes to people; artistically, it works just fine. Still, I think everybody should practise petting only with people they are physically attracted to. Just saying.

09 November 2010

Lykke Li - Get Some

A: Lykke Li
S: Get Some
C: Get Some - Single

Tuesdays are a bugger. The weekend has worn off, the week hasn't settled in yet, so there is never much to write about. Goes without saying that before lunchtime nobody should be awake anyway. What else to do than throw in a good old session de google: Li Lykke Timotej Zachrisson (ehrm, ok), better known by her stage name Lykke Li (Swedish pronunciation: [ˈlʏkə li] - aha), is a Swedish indie singer. 'njoy.

Pink - Raise Your Glass

A: Pink
S: Raise Your Glass
C: Greatest Hits: So Far (out 12.11.10)

Pink is about to release her first best of collection, which means that Christmas is coming up (and bringing us down, or whatever). Meaning that best of albums always get released round the festive season, probably because they make good enough presents, or not. Back to the song which gets two points; one for successfully copying Heath Joker Ledger's 'why so serious?' and one for 'too school for cool'.

07 November 2010

KT Tunstall - Push That Knot Away

A: KT Tunstall
S: Push That Knot Away
C: Tiger Suit

Tuuuuune. This might not be my most creative post, Sunday is always a tricky day, especially there was a certain or more likely uncertain amount of Vodka and Martini involved on the night before. It always seems like softening the Vodka with Martini seems like a good idea at the time, but never the next morning. Happy recovering everybody. By the way, Tiger Suit is better than expected, as in real good.

06 November 2010

Cassius - I Love You So

A: Cassius
S: I Love You So
C: I Love You So - EP

It is like 8 o'clock in the morning so basically in the middle of the night, which means I am keeping this one short as can be: the video is top class, while the song is alright for a saturday, which is alright for dancing, as Elton proclaimed once upon a time, 150 years ago when he was young. Anyway, you can actually download the lip app used in this video (hint: iTunes). Just search for Cassius. And lip the night away.

05 November 2010

Radical Face - Welcome Home

A: Radical Face
S: Welcome Home
C: Ghost

Justin Mitchell's video for Welcome Home was shot with Nikon lenses. Which is far from surprising since Nikon featured the song for their 'I am Nikon' commercial, as you might have recognized or known. The song is also used in the emotional climax of the film The Vicious Kind, and it is used in the trailer and movie of the Reel Rock Tour - having that many irons in the fire, bit of a slut, that song, if you ask me.

04 November 2010

My Chemical Romance - Na Na Na

A: My Chemical Romance
S: Na Na Na
C: Danger Days (out 19.11.10)

Mmh. From all the possible directions MCR could have gone after their so so fantastic last album 'The Black Parade', this must be the or at least my least favorite choice. Apparently they had some sort of mid-band-crises, and it shows. Still, the video is artisctly fantastic and as camp as american emo can get. Plus, they were the first post ever on this blog, so they will always have a special place on here, no matter what the *uck.

03 November 2010

Yelle - La Musique

A: Yelle
S: La Musique
C: La Musique - EP (out on Kitsuné)

Since this is a music blog and I am a music blogger and Yelle has a song out called music or musique (hate the country, not the language - is all I am saying) and I am super duper busy at work, it all makes sense and I can kind of keep it short today, I guess. Over and out.
PS: Actually, now that I watched it, the video is pretty cool. Watch out for Donald Draper!

02 November 2010

Belle & Sebastian - I Didn't See It Coming

A: Belle & Sebastian
S: I Didn't See It Coming
C: Write About Love

As I mentioned early on this year, at the end of the festival season, Belle & Seb is my favorite new live act. Ever. On their new album 'Write About Love' (which is supposed to be read together with the artist name, leading up to just say: Belle and Sebastian write about love - makes sense, no?), they do write about love, which they have than like basically on every other album before, too.

01 November 2010

The Rescues - Let Loose The Horses

A: The Rescues
S: Let Loose The Horses
C: Let Loose The Horses

In short, I love The Rescues. They were like my favorite band two years ago, which is why I don't have a clue how I managed to miss the release of their second album this summer. Although they were featured more than once on Grey's Anatomy, they never really broke big. Which is another shocking surprise, the second one today - hang in there, we're almost done. Actually, we are. Enjoy the up until now oh so insidesrs' tip.
