Dua Lipa doesn’t care on Don’t Start Now. She doesn’t care about you, the bad ex-boyfriend who, now, suddenly, seems to care because she’s so moved on it’s scary. And she’s dancing with someone else, or at least she could if she wanted. And her voice sounds stronger than ever, inching closer and closer toward a natural deployment of melisma, not dramatically Aguilerian but more robust than that of the young singer who relied, however effectively, on vocal modulation to launch New Rules and its chorus into the anthemic stratosphere.
