This is your daily song calendar - every day there is a new song or music video waiting for you. Maybe you hate it, maybe you love it - maybe you already know it or maybe you'll just discover something new! Either way, it's all about the music and a little bit about the lyrics. And since you're here, I will share what I've learned over the years: An apple a day keeps the doctor away but if the doctor is cute - screw the fruit!

NewVillager - LightHouse
A: NewVillager
S: LightHouse
C: LightHouse - Single
How fresh is this! The song sounds like something you have heard before and entirely new at the same time, and the video is, well, I love the dress that is made out of cassette tape. It is the ultimate way of covering your bits up. As in: The bare essential. If I could I would run around dressed in music, surrounded by music, eat music, breathe music, and have music running trough my veins.

Beastie Boys - Make Some Noise
A: Beastie Boys
S: Make Some Noise
C: Hot Sauce Committee Part Two (out now)
Hot Sauce Committee Part Two is the Boys' 8th studio album, it is out today, and yes, it's Frodo in the video. Among the performers are also: Johnny Knoxville, Seth Rogen, Elijah Wood, Danny McBride, Rashida Jones, Will Arnett, Maya Rudolph, Amy Poehler, Topher Grace, Kirsten Dunst, Jason Schwartzman, Chloe Sevigny, Will Ferrell, David Cross, Ted Danson, Jack Black, Steve Buscemi, Stanley Tucci, Susan Sarandon, Neil Patrick Harris,Meat Loaf, Orlando Bloom, Rainn Wilson, and John C. Reilly.

Okkervil River - Wake and Be Fine
A: Okkervil River
S: Wake and Be Fine
C: I Am Very Far
Now this might just be me, but I think clips with written words accompanying the lyrics of a song is the coolest thing to do at the moment. The same thing is true for a words of a spoken text (those who know me a bit better will know what I'm on about, those who don't, well you simply have to believe me). On the band: They are brilliant, another thing you have to believe. And they are from Austin, Texas. Unless Mr. Trump says something else.

Mélanie Laurent - En t'attendant
A: Mélanie Laurent
S: En t'attendant
C: En t'attendant
Look, she's French. Posting une chanson française has always something sophisticated about it, at least if you are not a native, I think. It's the language itself, of course. And there is always something effortlessly beautiful going on in French songs. So, Mélanie Laurent is an actress gone singer (Inglourious Basterds, for example) and if you buy her album, you get two songs featuring Damien Rice.
26 April 2011
Timber Timbre - Woman
A: Timber Timbre
S: Woman
C: Creep On Creepin' On
With the song and video both being pretty lovely, all you have to do is wait the wait while the intro takes about 25 seconds for the clip to begin. After that, the chorus is especially ace. And the rest as well. According to the web, this is Canadian folk or blues music. And Timber Timbre are not a band but a project. Don't ask me what the difference is. To me it sounds brilliant, and that is all I care about.

The Vaccines - If You Wanna
A: The Vaccines
S: If You Wanna
C: What Did You Expect From The Vaccines?
Ever since independent music became so popular, it has become quite difficult to find music that is actually indie, never mind sounds like indie. So for my liking, The Vaccines are the most indie that has been around for a while. Funny enough I didn't like the song when I watched the video the first time, but only when I listened to it on Cd. So if you don't, you know what to do.

SebastiAn - Embody
A: SebastiAn
S: Embody
C: Embody - Single (out 04.04.11)
There is a song by Feist, on the 'Paris Je T'aime' soundtrack, saying that life is dance, and that we are all in it. There is the saying that you have the choice to sit it out or dance. Then there is the Faithless video for 'Why Go?' that is kind of similar to this one but not the same. And then there actually is this video by SebastiAn. So, what I'm trying to say, in short: Have a dancelicious Easter.

Kim Churchill - Truest Intentions
A: Kim Churchill
S: Truest Intentions
C: With Sword And Shield
This is like Jack Johnson, if he was any good and really great. I don't dig the whole surfer scene thing but instantly felt in love with this stunning track by Mr. Churchill (and I would like to point out that I use the s-word very rarely). So the way I interpreted the bio, Kim is an actual musician who surfs, and not a surfer gone musician. Then again, who cares about the juicy details when face with such talent.

Polarsets - Sunshine Eyes
A: Polarsets
S: Sunshine Eyes
C: Sunshine Eyes - EP
Put some summer in your Easter. This is Polarsets, they are from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne and are bound to leave a so or such big musical footprint on this year's hype scene. Tom Robinson of BBC 6 (how many are there, like 25?) already raved about the trio last year when I fantastically ignored them, but since Kitsuné released this latest single last Tuesday, I figured it was worth a post.

WhoMadeWho - Every Minute Alone
A: WhoMadeWho
S: Every Minute Alone
C: Knee Deep - EP (out 25.04.11)
Ha - I love the video. I love Tomas Barfod, Tomas Hoffding and Jeppe Kjellberg, aka WhoMadeWho, anyway and no matter what. They are one of the few bands I went to a concert to without knowing anything about or any song by them (which I normally hate) and it was, quite frankly, the most smashing gig ever. The band's third album is well on it's way and set to be released later this year, while the EP Knee Deep is out next week.
20 April 2011
Tom Vek - A Chore
A: Tom Vek
S: A Chore
C: Leisure Seizure (out 06.06.11)
Everybody who is anybody or nobody is raving about Tom Vek being back and I am like: Who is he? Then I did my research and apparently he has released a debut album 5 years ago so basically, I still don't know that the whole fuss is about which I think is cool. Both the not knowing, and not getting the hype. Would be quite boring if there was nothing left to discover. So this is Tom Vek.

The Head And The Heart - Lost In My Mind
A: The Head And The Heart
S: Lost In My Mind
C: The Head And The Heart (out 22.04.11)
Can we skip summer please? Can we? I want to move straight forward to November and listen to this track like nonstop on repeat while dancing in the snow, no? If the song wasn't so simply beautiful without being corny or tacky I would say it's a proper wrong thing to release such a video right about the time when spring is about to break. All I can say now is that spring probably got the timing wrong. And the best thing is, you can download this track and additional one for free on the bands homepage. All is good.

Metronomy - The Look
A: Metronomy
S: The Look
C: The English Riviera
Jeez, I had this planned 10 days ago. Shame on me for lagging behind. So, if monotony is bliss, then Metronomy is bliss. And I mean that with the highest possible amount of admiration and excitement there is. To me, personally, the greatest thing in writing a song is to keep it as simple as possible production-wise, while there is such an catchy edge to it that it gets kind of stuck in your head. The Look does that as much as the nine other tracks featured on The English Riviera.

Vivian Girls - I Heard You Say
A: Vivian Girls
S: I Heard You Say
C: Share the Joy
Meet Cassie Ramone, Katy "Kickball Katy" Goodman and Fiona Campbell, as in Vivian Girls, or as I would call it: girl power the way it should be - with lots of fake fur (I hope it is fake) and some sexy red head (looks kind of fake too but still hot because red always is). They are from Brooklyn and they their line up pretty much as often as their record label, which is with every record.
16 April 2011
Gorillaz - Phoner To Arizona
A: Gorillaz
S: Phoner To Arizona
C: The Fall (out now)
They are back and had their album out yesterday. Don't really know what one is supposed to write about Gorillaz, they are pretty self-explanatory and nothing short of demonstrating Damon Albarn's genius. The Fall has been recorded during the Plastic Beach Tour on Albarn's iPad. Right, so I do think this is the first ever only instrumental song on here (I like my lyrics, normally). But this is different, it's the Gorillaz. And they are back.
15 April 2011
Miles Kane - Come Closer
A: Miles Kane
S: Come Closer
C: Colour Of The Trap (out 06.05.11)
Does the name ring a bell? Miles Kane? My ones didn't. Then I read on. Miles Kane is best known as the co-frontman of The Last Shadow Puppets and former frontman of The Rascals. And I love both the Puppets (well they only released one album) and the Rascals (I only bought one album). So, how not informed am I. Anyway, I caught up now, and there is another free legally downloadable track, if you like Miles on his Facebook page.
14 April 2011
Monarchy - I Won't Let Go
A: Monarchy
S: I Won't Let Go
C: I Won't Let Go - Single
Look who's back, that band we love. Well I do anyway. Somewhere between Daft Punk and Nip/Tuck, Monarchy from London released their new video yesterday. If you wonder why they are all incognito, read on. This is official: Monarchy don't show their faces or reveal their identity because they feel that artists have become bland and sanitized by the constant broadcast of personal lives... fair enough.

k.d. lang & The Siss Boom Bang - I Confess
A: k.d. lang & The Siss Boom Bang
S: I Confess
C: Sing It Loud
There is nobody like la lang, so there is obviously no need to get into that conversation. But I'd like to dwell on the fact that I love the video: It's like Brokeback Mountain with lesbians instead of cowboys, set in a sassy strip club instead of a boring cattle field. So the album is out now, recorded in Nashville, Tennessee (who would have guessed, listening to the track).
12 April 2011
Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues
A: Fleet Foxes
S: Helplessness Blues
C: Helplessness Blues (out 03.05.11)
You can download the song for free and legal on Fleet Foxes Online. Usually there is the big talk when a band releases a second album after a highly successful first one, but I guess that is pretty unnecessary in this case. Fleet Foxes just pick up where they left off with the last record. Apparently this has leaked at some point, somebody said on the facial book, but then it was on KCRW yesterday so I think it's official and good for posting.
11 April 2011
The Sound Of Arrows - Nova
A: The Sound Of Arrows
S: Nova
C: Nova - Single (out 25.04.11)
Remember 'Into the Clouds', their first single? Only took them two years to release the second one. So it is finally here and I am well aware that both the song and the act is so OTT (over the top) we need a new word for over, or top - but jeez I love it. Before the whole 80s revival this would have been called guilty pleasure. Now you can call it 80s and it's all hip. I love that even more. Download a free track on their Facebook page!
10 April 2011
Patrick Wolf - Time Of My Life
A: Patrick Wolf
S: Time Of My Life
C: Lupercalia (out 27.05.11)
There was a Wolf-ish concert on last night, and apparently it was the last concert of the tour. So if you missed it, tough luck. I usually don't like the term multi-something - because it means 'two or maybe three', but in Patrick's case, multi-instrumentalist is the word. With a stage packed with instruments he would play and his sweat-energic performance, I enjoyed myself to the max and loved every minute of it.

LMFAO Feat. Lauren Bennett & GoonRock - Party Rock Anthem
A: LMFAO Feat. Lauren Bennett & GoonRock
S: Party Rock Anthem
C: Sorry For Party Rocking (Summer 2011)
Watching this, I wanna grill my Game Boy for breakfast and eat it all ketch'ed up! Depending on where you are located, this has already been, is right now or is most probably going to be your country's number one. So, it's obviously purely about the video, being over 6 minutes, and the styling, the styling and the styling. And remember: Everyday we're shuffling!

The Hundred In The Hands - Commotion
A: The Hundred In The Hands
S: Commotion
C: The Hundred In The Hands
On the note of The Hundred In The Hands: I liked and loved and for that reason posted their first release Pigeons, some months back. Then the album came out and a friend of mine said it was nothing near as good as the single so I left it there. Now I bought it anyway with no reason or expectation whatsoever and have to say I think it is smashing. We learn: When it comes to taste, have your own.
07 April 2011
Ra Ra Riot - Boy
A: Ra Ra Riot
S: Boy
C: Orchard
I can't believe that I missed this one last year and am kind of wondering what I was doing last summer. I remember posting Ok Go and raving on about their clip with the dogs when, after seeing this one, it is clearly clear that cats was the thing to do back then. Well, and maybe lamps that would whirl around like balloons. Right, I love it. Wouldn't post it otherwise, would I.
06 April 2011
TV On The Radio - Will Do
A: TV On The Radio
S: Will Do
C: Nine Types Of Light (out 08.04.11)
Look who's back. After last year's release of his stunnilicious solo album 'Maximum Balloon', which I had on never stopping heavy repeats, TV On The Radio mastermind, DJ in demand and oh so popular producer David Sitek rejoins his fellow band troubadours to release a record called Nine Types Of Light. The band's website says it's out on the 12th of April, iTunes says the 8th. I say: Stay tuned.
05 April 2011
Music. First!
So here's a thing you might want to read because it is kind of cool and maybe even amazing. Songpeople.co.uk conducts official research for for major record labels and radio stations - about songs, tunes and music BEFORE they hit the radio or your favourite record store.
What's in it for you?
Sign up at SONGPEOPLE and take part in their musical surveys. In return for doing this, you'll collect credits, which you can convert into Amazon vouchers. So you can buy more music, of course.
Have a look. Now.
In addition, on the site, you find music industry news, artist news and music videos. Then again, you also find all this on this blog.
Beat Connection - Silver Screen
A: Beat Connection
S: Silver Screen
C: Surf Noir (out 10.04.11)
This should be fun: They describe themselves as 'Tropical Psychedelic Pop'. I like the tropical. Ok here's a confession: Sometimes when I am out and about and I see people I know in the streets or on the bus and they don't see me while there is a track I love playing on my headphones (and there always is), I ignore them so I can continue listening to the song. It's not antisocial, it's just me.

Benjamin Francis Leftwich - Atlas Hands
A: Benjamin Francis Leftwich
S: Atlas Hands
C: A Million Miles Out - EP
How stunning is this? The perfect little soundtrack for a day like today. After being teased with summer's first crispy rays of sun, the rain is a reminder that not everything in life moves quite as fast as you want them to. Sometimes they don't move at all, and sometimes you get more than you wished for. At least that's the way how I think it's meant to be.
03 April 2011
The Kills - Satellite
A: The Kills
S: Satellite
C: Blood Pressures
So iTunes tells me that 'Blood Pressures' has been released on the forth of April. Has been. And I'm thinking: Hang on, how much did I drink last night or for how long have I been asleep? Last time I checked, as in yesterday, it was the second. Then I double-checked and it really is only the third today. By the way, can I have that car please? Thank you.

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart - Heart in Your Heartbreak
A: The Pains of Being Pure at Heart
S: Heart in Your Heartbreak
C: Belong
I heart The Pains of Being Pure at Heart! They have one of the best band names ever, because size matters and the longer the better. I love the husky male voice not trying to be anything bigger than it is, and I adore the simplicity of the cleverly written words that evoke feelings which are larger than life. It is nothing else than songwriting at its best.

Jonathan Jeremiah - Happiness
A: Jonathan Jeremiah
S: Happiness
C: A Solitary Man (out today)
I've read that Jonathan Jeremiah is something close to Jesus, saving us from today's bad music. That is probably a tad exaggerated, for I think we are in a great musical year in 2011. But I do like the idea of music being compared to religion, in a way. At least it is the only thing I believe in. Think of it as a church, and decide for yourself whether God is a Dj or not.
